Chances for a friend

Hey all,

Just thought I’d do a chances for a friend at the following schools: Columbia, Penn, NYU, JHU, and taking some suggestions for some other colleges.

Ethnicity: Chinese (Female)
Family income: 70,000 (low income)
GPA: UW 3.6 (junior year with about a 3.3)
SAT: 2110 (760M/730CR/620W)

SAT IIs:
760 Chinese
770 Math II

AP Scores (school offers maybe 15):
Government 3
Biology 4 (expected)
Language 3 (expected)
Psychology 4 (expected)
World 4 (expected)
BC Calc 5 (expected)

Extracurriculars:

 • Founded a corporation dealing with wholesale/retail: estimated annual revenue is close to 12,000
 • Associated Student Body President (2 Years): Consistently raised over 10,000 dollars for community non-profits, changed school policies, etc.
 • District Student Government Treasurer (previously served on Executive Council)
 • Communications Rep for School Board Member
 • Poll watcher for District Elections
 • Delegate to State Student Government
 • National Honors Society, Treasurer
 • Community Service Club, President
 • Diversity Club, President
 • Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer of a national student-run non-profit organization
 • Tutor for money to support herself
 • Currently attending summer program at TASP and was selected for Girl’s State

With that GPA and the fact that she is Asian, she will need higher test scores like 2200+. She has good ECs but nothing that jumps out as unique. She will need to make herself stand out in her essays.

Columbia reach
Penn reach
NYU low reach
JHU low reach

bump. She says she’s aiming for Penn ED. I don’t know if that changes anything.
