Chances for a good-looking MIT female physics/bioengineering major?

I’m kind of insane, and I haven’t even started most of my apps.
Care to evaluate my chances?

GPA (unweighted- school doesn’t weigh GPA): 4.0
Class rank: 1/400ish

ACT: 35 (only took it once, same as SAT and SAT IIs… doubt that would make a difference)
English: 35
Reading: 34
Math: 35
Science:36

SAT: 2340 (770 on math, 790 on writing, 780 on reading)

SAT II: 800s on Math II, Physics, Chemistry

APs:
Language & Composition: 5
Physics: E&M: 5
Physics: Mechanics: 5
Chemistry: 5
Calculus BC: 5

Senior year courses:
AP Env. Science
AP Bio
AP English Lit.
Anatomy/Physiology
Pathology (1st sem.)/ Microbiology/Genetics (2nd sem.)
Dual enrollment at a very good local college for Linear Algebra and Differential Equations

I still have a 4.0 so far this year (college and HS courses).

Extracurriculars:
Robotics team: Communications Captain: 9th-12th
French Club: Marketing Captain: 9th-12th
Volunteering at the Older Person’s Commission since 10th grade
Church Youth Group: 9th-12th
Waitress: 15-20 hrs. a week for the past 6 months (didn’t have my work permit before then)

Awards:
Michigan Math Prize finalist
AP Scholar with Distinction
Most likely National Merit Finalist
Several “Student of the year” awards

I know my ECs are kinda crappy; and by kinda, I mean really insanely…
But what I think WOULD set me apart from the other applicants is the fact that I have only lived in the US, or any other English-speaking country, for that matter, for 4.5 years. Before that, I lived in Germany and an Eastern European country parents…
Also, I’m a really good writer. (And a completely modest one, as well)

Your ECs don’t seem so bad to me. And your classes and stats seem quite respectable.

Not really. I mean, you’d be in the minority, and it could certainly be the subject of a compelling essay, but based on my social circle this is not uncommon for MIT students.

I’d say that you have a reasonable shot. But as you know, 1) even most people with reasonable shots are more likely to be rejected than not, and 2) very few people can ask for more than “a reasonable shot”.

Your chances look favorable to me. My main advice is: Spend time on your essays–show how your interests fit with MIT (as opposed to giving the impression of generic academic excellence). Based on what MIT admissions representatives have been saying around the country, I think they’ll actually like your combination of waitressing with the high-quality academics.

Thanks for answering.
Bah, if I don’t get lucky, at least I got into UofM…

“I know my ECs are kinda crappy; and by kinda, I mean really insanely…”

Did you ever stop to think that might sound a little obnoxious to others? I had very similar ECs in high school. I’m sorry to hear that you think that they’re “crappy.”

wait, good-looking?

you’re in.

better than the chances of a good-looking male physics/bioengineering major with the same statistics.

To LauraN:
I meant that they are not at the same level as those of the people who did some insane research or participated in an activity at a really high level. I love my ECs, but just look through the forum. Compared to: I conducted stem cell research/I won the national _____, yeah, they aren’t quite as impressive.
I’m really sorry I offended you, but I suppose this website makes me feel pretty inadequate.

Pebbles: Don’t I feel like a dumbass for posting this last night after six hours of work and 2 hours of sleep the night before… Wow, I’m annoying.

Some people lie on this website. Don’t take everyone’s statistics to heart. If you feel that what you’ve done is important and you enjoyed doing it, then you don’t have to worry about how you size up against everyone else.

Your stats are great. If you don’t get into MIT, you’ll get in somewhere–don’t fret.

Your residential status will not matter that much in MIT Adcoms, i have better statistics than yours except for your stellar SAT reasoning scores and i have only been living living in the US for 11 months and learned English here but that is CERTAINLY not a hook.

Good point, Mcpucks1357

your stats are certainly up to par ;D

your EC’s are fine. really. I mean, it would be great if you had something amazing, but not everyone does, and they still get into MIT. I’d say you have a good shot.

even if you don’t get into MIT… one of Berkeley/Stanford/Caltech/etc. would definitely want you with those awesome stats.

@ miops: sorry if I was harsh, but that’s exactly my point. This website is INSANE. Most of the people who show up here to ask “what are my chances?!” are either lying, or are so full of themselves they are not worth emulating.

My point is, your ECs are similar to what mine are, and I’m now a senior at MIT. So, try to put it in a little perspective.

LauraN: What are you majoring in? I’m just curious.
And thanks for actually making me feel a little bit better. :)

Haha, no problem, my goal is usually to make people feel better, but my primary mode of attack is sarcasm, so it doesn’t always work perfectly.

And I’m majoring in mechanical engineering.

^In your defense, LauraN, it’s kind of difficult to effectively use sarcasm via written rhetoric, let alone verbal. I’m sure the OP understands…

Bumpity bump?

ur female, ur smart, uve struggled… in my opinion ull get in lol
