Chances for a solid applicant, but not a big timer..

ok, i look on these threads regularly, and i notice, 3rd place runner up for this and national winner for that…and intel and sts project winners along with internships and several leadership positions…is all of this necessary?? i mean, can u get into a school like…brown (which is where i wanna go)…without having all of these stellar things.

it sounds stupid, the answer is obviously, yes you can get in w/out such things…but i want some feedback

CCers are just crazy.

I had a 3.4 in HS (even had an F). Didn’t go to college for four years after I graduated. Went to a community college and got a 3.8 and got great recommendations. Did a lot with Phi Theta Kappa (was President). Took ACT and SAT in college. Got a 23 and a 1760 w/ 600ish subject tests. Did lots of outside learning too though, like reading about philosophy and doing lots of computer stuff since I was a young buck. Was a homecoming candidate, I used to do a lot of weightlifting, I like to bake, won 3rd at a college art show. I guess I’m not typical which was a great hook.

I got accepted to Brown. I’m psyched about next year despite the massive debt I’m coming into.

^wow .

Brown is a lot better for admissions. If you’re a great kid with a CCer’s version of substandard numbers, they’ll take you, because you’re interesting.
