Hi, I’m Megan. I’m currently a freshmen at the University of Texas San Antonio (I’m a Coordinated Admissions student for the main campus at Austin - I applied a bit too late). I have a guaranteed transfer for UT Austin next year, but I believe I’d prefer to go somewhere smaller. My two favorites are Notre Dame and Boston College.

High School:
GPA: unweighted- 3.517, weighted 4.217
Rank: 206 of 820-840ish (my school doesn’t have the class size listed any more. I know we had 862 my junior year and lost a few people)
SAT: 720 Critical Reading, 710 Math, 660 Writing (side note: my school does an accelerated block system, and I didn’t have math or English for 6 months prior to taking the SAT. I feel that impacted my writing score, though I didn’t note this on any applications because I felt it would be placing the blame on the system)
ACT: Composite- 30
APs: 5s on Calculus AB and Human Geography, 4s on World History and US History, 3 on European History. I have credit for all 5 exams at UTSA.

ECs:
Marching & Concert Band for 4 years; officer senior year
Winter guard for 10-12
Mu Alpha Theta 11
Council of International Affairs (AP international relations club) all 4 years
Mystagogia (my church’s group for confirmed seniors, I wasn’t very involved, though, as band & guard often conflicted with retreats and such)

College:
I’m currently taking: Writing Composition I, Basic Chemistry, Art History 1450-1750, Intro to American Politics, and Calculus II.
Next Semester I plan on taking: Writing Composition II, Chemistry + lab, Italian I + lab, Calculus III, and one more class (possibly Psychology or another Art History). My class choices are limited because I’m in the CAP program.

My high school rank is obviously a bit lower than it should be. My school was very competitive (we’re in the Newsweek rankings, if that means anything) and my science grades were definitely hurting my GPA, but I continued to take Pre-AP sciences because I thought they would look better. I’m currently doing well in my classes at UTSA, so I’m hoping a high college GPA will balance out that issue.

I also have fewer ECs than I’d like. However, winterguard was EXTREMELY time consuming, especially my senior year. Senior year we had 12-20 hours of practice each week of Spring semester, during which time I also had band practice. Do especially difficult/time consuming ECs have more weight than having lots of other ECs?

Thank you for reading through all this!

EDIT: I forgot to say that I am looking to major in International Relations/Political Science or History.
