chances for admission or aid?

Hi

Just wondering if anyone out there who has gotten in recently or knows about the current state of acceptance at Pomona could tell me what my odds are looking like

im a junior, cumulative gpa 3.8/4.0
SAT: Math 670 Critical reading 730 Writing 710
Sat II: World History 800, US History 760, English (literature) 780
ACT: 33

ECs… Secretary/Treasurer Amnesty International, Natl Art Honor Society Secretary, yadda yadda.

Im really into theatre and Ive our schools plays…ive also got accepted to NYSSSA. Its a selective state program for people interested in theatre.

Spent past two summers volunteering for park service

Two questions…would it matter if i didnt take a math/science Sat II? im not planning on doing any engineering, but i heard that they still sometimes want to see it.

i know theres no magic formula, but does this sound reasonable?

also, for a upper middle class family ~120k annual income, what might a financial aid package look like

thanks

Financial aid at Pomona can usually extend up to families with 150k. In special circumstances, (i.e. multiple children in college), this number can be pushed a little higher. Not a full-ride, but nothing to scoff at either.

How much you get will depend on other things besides income like assets, existing savings, # of students in college, etc.

You have a shot at getting in, but I would say it’s a really big reach unless you’re a much more qualified applicant than your post makes you seem. I would still give it a shot though, because you never really know. A class rank and an expanded yadda yadda may make it easier to chance you though. Good Luck

thanks, and i will add more. I was mostly wondering if the numbers seemed remotely reasonable or not. I have a better sense of east coast schools since i live nearer to them.

my school doesn’t rank by actual number, but gives certain bench marks and number of students who fall in that category. Im in the 93-95 section, so even if i was last in that and including those above me, i should fall somewhere between 15-25 out of 400.

to expand on the yadda yadda:

Ive been quite involved in Students for Peace and a local non profit which advocates for more progressive legislation in the state legislature. I work in the school to both get people involved these and to raise money. A lot of my work has been done talking to senators, and i am the student liaison between the nonprofit and the press.

I logged 500 total hours over two summers volunteering for the Student Conservation Association, where I lived out of a tent and worked for a trail crew (i highly recommend it - great way to spend time in nature)

The NYSSSA thing is pretty important for theatre, because (sorry for sounding so pretentious) i was picked as one of 32 to be in it. Anyone who lives in New York can apply, and they had over 1000 candidates for the program.

I am editor of the schools literary magazine, and have had a few of my poems published elsewhere.

Ive played piano for ten years, and have been invited to perform in the NY State Music Teachers Association Honors Concert.

National Merit Scholar

I think thats all,
thanks for listening and sorry if i sound like im a jerk, im just trying to give a move complete picture

thanks!

No, you don’t sound conceited at all, which means a lot from me, lol. That’s pretty impressive, and should definitely help your chances.

I think if you can push up your SATs, you will definitely be competitive.
But even if you leave them where you are, it sounds reasonable to me :)

Pomona is exceedingly generous with aid. I presume you are likely to get a better package there than most anywhere.

If I’m not mistaken Pomona gurantees to meet your demonstrated need?

^ Yes, they do, with grants and not loans.

sweet! i definitely want to apply here

you should apply! make sure that in your essays, you write something you’re passionate about, and do the optional essay because it gives them a chance to see past your scores, gpa etc
