Chances for an 800 Math SAT but an C in honors math

My GPA is pretty bad but my SAT scores are good (especially w/o the writing) My ECs are good and my recs/essays should be good,

4.0 GPA (weighted, goes up to 6)
SAT: 800 MAth
740 CR
650 Writing

football captain, 8 musical theatre leads, etc

I’m just wondering if I have a chance at any of these schools…

Geneseo (out of state)
Binghamton
Connecticut College
Bates
Skidmore
Marist
McGill
Lafayette
College of New Jersey (out of state)

I think my school has a different GPA weighted scale than most, AP A+ is worth 6, so our VERY BEST students have GPAs of slightly over 5, with top 25%ish National honors kids over like a 4.25

Ok, your gpa will hurt you, but those killer SAT’s (out of 1600 which most schools look at) will pretty much get you almost anywhere on your list. Here is my ranks.

Geneseo- Safety
Binghamton-Safety
Conn. College- Low Match, High Safety
Bates- (imo hardest on your list) Match
Skidmore- Safety
Marist- not sure
McGill- not sure
Lafayette- Low match
College of New Jersey- low match

According to the college boards website, Bates acceptance rate is 32%–so it might be a high match/slight reach…

Thanks, any other suggestions for schools to look at? Maybe places that put a high value on test scores? Or ECs (especially singing)? I wish i knew my GPA on the unweighted scale but I’m thinking it’s between 2.9 and 3.2ish

Larger schools have a tendency to focus more on test scores. Mabye look at Wisconsin or Mich (Mich might be a slight reach).

At Choc lover- I know his GPA will hurt him, but he has over 200 pts higher sat’s then avg students that go there. B/c this will balance it out, i’d say he was a match.

Now for a warning. If you do have around a 2.9-3.0 uw gpa, one or two of these schools might reject you just on the fact that you seem to be a smart but lazy.

Yeah the smart but lazy thing’s somethin I’ve heard a lot lately.
Those schools look great but I really need something in New England, New York, PA, of NJ… so that limits my options
any other suggestions?

also any thoughts on colgate?

Ridiculous. The OP doesn’t have a shot at Michigan out of state with that GPA. Probably not Wisconsin either.

What state are you from, pennsylvania? How about penn state?

I’m from mass… Penn state could be alright though

Definitely do Umass Amherst then. I think TCNJ might look favorably on an OOS student, but I’m not sure.

Any other than publics? I was thinking about looking into Union, Colgate, Clark,
any others for private colleges in the area? preferably btween 2-6000 students

I’ve gotten a lot of suggestions about publics… but not much on private schools… anything?

you should be looking at better schools

They aren’t all going to reject you for one C. If you show improvement, that will look good!
