Chances for an aspiring Digital Artist

Hey all,

17 Year old white male from Queen Anne’s County, MD here. I’ll post my academics stats then my extracurriculars later.

But first off, schools. I’m looking to be a Film/Comp Sci major:
Cornell
Boston College
UMD
Colby
Bowdoin
Bates
St. Mary’s in Maryland (safety)
and possibly Princeton because my dad knows the Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School. Whether or not I apply there depends on how much this connection will help.

Academics:

GPA: 3.66 UW/4.05W
Rank: 21/150
SAT: 720 CR, 640 M, 750 W
SAT II: 560 Math II, 600 Latin, 640 Lit (yeah I know) These will be going up.
ACT: 31 - I may just use this to cover up my horrible subject tests
HARDEST courseload available by far – even completed online AP European History despite a 50% dropout rate. This was the first online AP course in the entire Archdiocese.
Recommendations and Essay will hopefully be good.

Extracurriculars and Awards:

-Completely redisgned the Crabnet (school newspaper) website in compliance with modern web standards.
-Senior Tribute 2006
A massive 300 slide PowerPoint dedicated to the graduating senior class. Four years worth of photographs and memories were compiled into a massive slideshow and presented to the Senior Class of 2006 before graduation. Basically worked on this with myself and the help of one teacher. Lots of hours and hardwork were put into this.

-Funny Farm Productions
A film company which opened in 2005, Funny Farm Productions has produced 3 motion pictures and FFP has a online sitcom, 2 movies, and another documentary in preproduction.
Well? Do I stand a chance? I will work my butt off to get my Subject Test scores much higher than they are now.

Maybe you should consider majoring in Digital Media or Electronic Media or Electronic Arts (different names and emphasis at different colleges). Good schools for these are Carnegie Mellon, RPI, USC (also strong on film, of course). I think RIT and WPI and a bunch of other tech-type schools also have something along these lines. Good luck!

Cornell - Reach
Boston College - Match
UMD - Safety
Colby - Slight Reach
Bowdoin - Match
Bates - Match
St. Mary’s - ?
Princeton - Very Big Reach

Given your interests, you might want to take a look at Emerson College in Boston, and Syracuse University.

Along with the schools wackymother mentions, both UCSC and Georgia Tech are strong in the areas of Digital Media, Electronic Media, Electronic Arts–and UCSC just started up a film program. Other places with Film as a strong interest are Univ of Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and, of course, NYU.

P.S. I agree with amptron2X’s ratings (and St. Mary’s is a safe match).
