I LOVE International Relations, and I’m looking for a school that has a strong program for IR/Middle Eastern Studies, while having a competitive Parliamentary Debate team. However, my GPA and class rank aren’t that great. In fact, they’re pretty bad. What are my chances for Hopkins ED/RD?

I’m not sure whether I want to apply ED at this point, but I know it would help a LOT esp. with my GPA. Any input and help would be MUCHLY appreciated!

I think you have a great, great, great chance as an ED. I mean, your stats are in a stable range. I suppose the ranking going up senior year wouldn’t hurt. But, once again, I must say that you have to distinguish yourself. I mean, you even admitted you’re a “typical asian girl”. Sorry, but no elite college wants that (which I’m sure you knew)! Don’t be typical. Be loud. Be weird. Be NOTICED.

Haha, she said was was an “atypical” Asian girl… meaning not typical. And I think she’s right. :)

u’ve definitely got a good shot. just make sure to write great essays and ur in

Does Hopkins typically have a higher yield for ED applicants? My friend told me that they accept 63% of ED aps, but that seemed unusually high

I heard 55%.

yes, JHU has a very high ED acceptance rate - 60%. You show them the love, and they respond! But, rumor has it the FinAid is mostly loans to ED apps, so don’t apply ED if you need FinAid.

The ED rate this year was 52%. The finaid process is the same for both processes. In fact, ED admits are at an advantage for some forms of aid, because they get the first crack at it.

thanks for the correction, silver. (I was just repeating what other parents have posted elsewhere, and that info maybe old.)

Ah! I totally didn’t see the attached a + typical. My bads! (thanks silver.) And, and, and . . . good luck (again). tehee.
