Taking ACT and SAT 2 this coming Fall. Would love to know if I have a shot at being accepted.

I would consider you to only have a sliiiiiight chance of getting in. With your SAT and class rank, which are both less than stellar, I wouldn’t get my hopes to high. I don’t think the Art/Astronomy thing will be a hook because the vaaaaast majority of students end up changing majors and veeerrrryyy few students actually end up graduating with a double major. The only “hooks” I see are the first generation/hispanic thing, but I wouldn’t bank on that since Yale is receiving more applications from students with these same hooks every year.

MusicPaint: have you investigated Questbridge (or did I already mention this to you?)

Yeah. I know my chances are pretty slight. I mean, I’ve seen pretty average hispanic students get in where I’m from, so we’ll see how my application goes. And I have done research on QuestBridge, but I really don’t like being committed to a college through things like Early Decision and the Match program. I would rather just get a fee waver and apply regular decision. I don’t think it would hinder my application that much.

Questbridge admits even before early decision. Its probably your best chance for Yale.

Also, Questbridge is non-binding for Yale and 3 other top schools. I would strongly recommend Questbridge to you, and I agree with keesh17 it is probably your best chance for Yale. Not to mention, ALL of the QB schools would be a great school, when you consider the scholarship.

My son’s first shot at the SAT – his scores were almost exactly the same as yours. He got a couple of books and spent many hours studying and taking practice tests, and on his second try he improved almost 300 points, and ended up Match at his top choice, Haverford.

I’m planning on taking the SAT again in October. And I didn’t know some of the colleges were non-binding. I’ll look into that. But do you think it would be possible to just have Questbridge apply to only those nonbinding colleges?

Yes, you can opt to select only non-binding schools through Questbridge.
