Chances for Average kid in dream school

NU is my dream school, so here are my stats and any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Im actually an average kid, not one of thos freakishly smart overachievers claiming NU to be a safety. If i get in, I am definitely going there.

GPA: 4.27 W, 3.76 UW
ACT: 28 with 11 on writing (bad testaker)
Rank: 140/720 (extremely competive school, in top 100)
11 APs with 5s and 4s on exams
ECs (my strongest point)
-Editor-in-CHief of newspaper
-Captain of tennis team
-Performed reseach in my major area (geological science in liberal arts)
-Semi-finalist in coca-cola scholarship
-Received an internship this summer in Glacier National Park
-Performed over 700 hours on Comm service
-Have held four jobs
-Many others that arents as big but show leadership

Had an interview yesterday and went EXTREMELY well! He told me that he was impressed with me. I applied to Geology in Weinberg school, so tell me if I have any shot. THANKS!

Well, first off, cut the “average kid” crap when you’re the Editor of your school paper, captain of a sports team, and have 700 hours of volunteer work under your belt.

Face it: you’re an overachiever. You’re one of us. :)

That being said, IMHO your stats look great, although your test scores and rank don’t fit the bill of the average NU kid. But no worries - my test scores were a bit lower as well, and it wasn’t a problem. I’d say you have as good a shot as anyone at getting in. Good luck!

You are an average kid only by the artificially inflated standards of many people who post on this forum. Don’t sell yourself short.

haha I’m relatively average for this site. thanks for the input.

dont blame the ACT score on bad test-taking skills, you did great on your AP tests! but if i were you, i would take the SATs, you may get significantly different results.

Nah, SATS are even worse

Average kid my @$$.

Anyone else care to comment?

Your ECs seem really strong. But how were your essays? I’m guessing you elaborated on your experiences with Geology. I’m a prospective student as well, so I don’t have much knowledge about the admissions process. But from what I can see, you have a chance.
