Chances for Cornell CAS RD

Sup, I plan on double majoring in Government and Economics for my pre-law degrees. I’m a white male from rural Pennsylvania. My high school sends maybe 1-2 people a year to Ivy League, and sometimes none.

My parents announced their separation a week before I started my freshman year, which severely impacted my grades. Then a close friend of mine killed herself when I was in 10th grade, which also impacted my grades for a bit. But I got through all of that and got a 4.0 junior year, which gave me an upward trend.

So yea, I’m under the impression that my chances are 0.001%. Is that accurate?

Hey, bump please for help?

I’m guessing the 0-2 people your school sends to the Ivy League are among the top 5 students in the graduating class. In which case being ranked #33, regardless of your huge upward trend, may not cut it. However, your scores and course rigor still make you a competitive applicant and it is worth it for you to apply to Cornell. Just be yourself in your personal essays and they might see something in you!

No, most of the people we send to Ivy Leagues are athletes surprisingly. We have a football player going to Princeton this year and we sent a player to UPenn last year. But yes, the few people that do go to Ivy Leagues due to academic achievements are in the top 5. I would be in the top 5 if my freshman/sophomore grades were like my junior and future senior grades…

Thanks for the reply :)
