Chances for Duke/Vanderbilt

Would these schools be turned off by seeing two classes- SGA and a varsity sport- both on a student’s schedule?

I get all A’s, I’m currently ranked top 10 in my class of 500… Just trying to figure out my schedule for next year.

Any advice welcome. I want to go to Duke or Vanderbilt.

What is SGA?

student government

what matters most is your SAT1 or ACT scores, all other parameters are not that important.

We want to see the rest of your file…

No way! Well, at least that much. Isn’t student government supposed to look good to colleges?

If your grades are good, than there’s nothing to worry about. It’s like when people get stressed about a Study Hall looking bad- well if the person is taking 4 APs, who cares?

No offense, but i hope you understand the Duke and Vandy are extremely selective. What is your GPA and ACT/SAT score? Also if that is the ONLY thing you have on your Extracurriculars…then fix that, 2 ECs that are generally common looks EXTREMELY weak. Also 4 APs is NOTHING. Most kids applying will have 10-12. I would say high reach

Please, get some backup plans to Vandy and Duke.

milkyway wake up SGA doesn’t mean much, what means is in the order of preference:
1, GPA, GPA, GPA
2. SAT or ACT scores
3. ECs
4. Essays
Sga could come under ECs but its significance is minimal.

List of Importance

 1. GPA/Standardized Test scores (they are a tie and equal)
 2. Course Load/Rigor
 3. Essays/ECs
 4. Teacher Recs/Misc

And i thought i would never say this, but i agree with Catria :p

Like everybody else has said there are other things that matter more. Will it lower your rigor? Yes, but I don’t think that would be a main reason for a rejection. Again like everybody else has said, make sure you apply to several more reasonable schools…

Trust me between Catria and Artsygirl you could never go wrong. Their advice is right on and dead center.
