Early admission is strictly numbers…they don’t look at awards, activities, recs or anything else. For that reason, I think you may be deferred but get in on regular decision…and the reason is the SAT scores are lower than the bench mark of 1300. You will get in but you will most likely have to submit additional info.

Some students do not use the correct formula in computing the gpa to a 4.0 scale…but they just convert a 92 to mean a 4.2. That is incorrect. Google formula for converting numerical gpa to 4.0 scale and there are sites to do this. YOu may have done it correctly but it is a common error. Make sure you use the right formula.

Another thing. I believe and you can verify that the school is removing classes like band, p.e. and going to only academic courses FINALLY. These automatic A classes often inflate grades. The Hope scholarship is also removing all weight and non academic classes. Many students 10, 000 or so failed to qualify when non academic class grades were removed…and weight.

20 points below the 1300…and i will be deferred? wow.

Those are the gpa’s my school gave me. I do have above a 3.0 in just my academic classes.

Oh btw, I know quite a few people who made it in last year with a 1120 or so. It was VERY shocking.

I def. think you will get in but the early admission criteria is strictly numbers as I said. That was the point of acceptance we noticed for the last few years. Yes through regular decision and NOT COUNTING ATHLETES the standards seem to run about 1250 or so…but essays, ec’s, recs and all play into that. You have t o remember that MANY early decision students go elsewhere. UGA offers very few financial incentives (except their meager offering to foundation and ramsey scholars). One of President Adam’s shortcomings IMHO. They buy land in costa rica and spain instead.

Maybe the cutoff will be slightly lower this year since SAT’s have declined with the new SAT. One thing you did not mention is what you were taking as far as rigor of curriculum. The honors director told my D that if you take AP or IB (a very rigorous curriculum) classes you are 96% likely to get into UGA… I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get in on early adm. Let me know how it goes.

I know of a 1200/3.5 who got in eventually in the last group admitted in May. You are well above that.

I have noticed the same trends re SAT scores in the lower part of Georgia. However, we see very few people who got in with scores under 1250 unless they have a fair number of AP classes.

Also, realize that UGA recalculates your GPA. They will give more weight to AP grades.

I have taken 3 AP’s and am taking 3 more this year.

My chances seem slim at UGA for EA. I already got accepted to GA State, but GSU is really a back up for me. UGA is my first choice, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get deferred for EA, and then I might have a 50/50 chance for RD.

SAT Total: 970
SAT Verbal: 440
SAT Math: 530
SAT Writing: 480

ACT Composite: 21
ACT English: 22
ACT Math: 23
ACT Writing: 08

I really didn’t take the SAT or the ACT seriously, and now I deeply regret it. I can’t take the SAT or ACT now because UGA isn’t going to see the new scores anyways. Even if I am deferred for EA, I can’t take a SAT or ACT test before Jan. 15th.

However, I go to a Georgia public school, and my rank is 13 out of 219. My school does not offer many honors courses and only offers one AP class. I’ve taken four honors classes (which is all they have), and I’ll be taking AP Calculus next semester. My GPA is 3.9 something. I think it’s a 3.94 with like a 95 or 96 average. I am an Indian so I don’t know if that’ll help me or not. I applied to Franklin College of Arts and Sciences to major in Chemistry. I saw on their website somewhere that they only have about 30 something people graduate from a Chemistry major, but there are about a thousand that graduate from a Biology major.

Also, my EC activities include: FBLA (2 years), Key Club (1 year), and BETA Club (3 years).

Please tell me how good or bad a chance I have getting accepted in EA and RD.

Nice job hijacking the thread patel. Having said that, I would say very very slim if no chance EA and probably pretty slim RD because of your test scores.

Patel,
You can take the Dec. SAT as a walk in. It costs seriously more than when you preregister, but the info is on the college board site. You need to start studying and get in there to take it. I don’t know of anyone admitted to UGA with less than 1000 SAT. That kid was born in Vietnam, captain of the swim team and had a 3.97 GPA. He took all AP classes, too. Frankly, I am surprised you got into GSU.

I’ll go to collegeboard.com and look into that, however, if I take the SAT or ACT in December, will UGA still look at it for RD since applications are due Jan. 15th or so. Also, GSU looks at three factors as you know: GPA, the classes you take, and your test scores. I guess my test scores didn’t weigh in on me that much and besides… collegeboard claims GSU usually takes people with a score range between…
SAT Critical Reading: 490 - 590
SAT Math: 500 - 600
SAT Writing: -
ACT Composite: 20 - 25

I agree I definitely screwed up on my test scores. I would rather take the ACT again than the SAT since the ACT is closer to my house. I’ll check further on that. By the way, if anyone has AIM and would like to help me out with college things, please let me know. I’m usually always on AIM.

Take either one, but make sure to study and GREATLY improve your score, if you want UGA. The December test will be looked at for RD. Your scores will be back before Jan. 1, so you should be in good shape.

Any suggestions on improving my ACT scores? I don’t think I’ll take the SAT again.

I know I need to study, but what kind of things will aid me more.
