so far, I have been rejected from several colleges, such as Smith College. I am just thinking if I have been rejected from schools like Smith, then my chance for Harvard is definetley ZERO. My parents have kept telling me that I would never went to harvard unless a miracle happens! I felt so desperate these days.

I know a person who got into Yale after getting rejected from a state university a few years ago.

I’m not sure why Smith College rejected you, but like it has been said many times before, colleges look for different things, so you never know. I remember reading somewhere about people who got into Harvard that got rejected from Stanford, MIT, etc. as well.

There’s a thread about this in the Brown section. Many call it “Tuft’s Syndrome,” because a few years back many students applied to Harvard and then applied to Tufts (as a safety, backup, etc.). Tufts rejected many of students it would’ve normally accepted after realizing that they were being used this way. I myself was rejected at one state school, waitlisted at another. After looking back on the supplements for those schools I found that they asked me to list the other colleges to which I was applying.

All I can say is that the college admissions process is so fickle; just don’t read into anything…especially this year.
