Common app essay: about how playing golf since the age of two has instilled qualities in me that have prepared me for the problems I face in the real world.

Schools I’m applying to:
Dartmouth College
Princeton University
Brown University
Harvard College (EA?)
Johns Hopkins
Safeties: tufts, swarthmore college, williams college, Lehigh

As a quick side note: There is a dormitory at Harvard that is named after my family. The man they named it after is a relative of mine; we share the same last name (Pennypacker) and I’ve done plenty of research to confirm that we share a common relative a while back

Please Chance me! It would be greatly appreciated!

Good stats, good ECs, but you never know. Really, don’t be heartbroken and PLAN on some matches/safeties you really like. Williams, Tufts, Swarthmore, and Lehigh are NOT safeties! You can’t bet on getting into any of those. Especially not Tufts and Williams. Tufts and Williams are really reaches, Lehigh and Swarthmore are matches. Get a real safety or two.

Dartmouth College- reach
Princeton University- reach
Brown University -reach
Harvard College (EA?)- match
Johns Hopkins- match
Safeties: tufts, swarthmore college, williams college, Lehigh

Williams and Swarthmore are more competative than Hopkins. Your odds at both williams and swartmore are possibly lower than your odds at dartmouth, brown, harvard. They are both incredibly competitive schools.

Tufts- competitive, you will likely be accepted but I’m not sure you could call is a safety
Lehigh- safety.

Your academics look on par with those schools, and your ECs aren’t bad. Add some safeties and you should be good. I am not sure whether your related family member’s contribution at Harvard will matter too much.

At schools like Swarthmore, Williams, Tufts, etc., GPA is definitely not what should indicate your acceptance. At my school, the average accepted gpa to Rice is a 5.0 (4.8 for a six-semester gpa), whereas my six-semester is 5.11 - by no means is Rice a safety for me. Safety indicates that you are nearly guaranteed to get in; for example, UT-Austin for me is guaranteed because of auto-admit by ranking. You need more safeties unless you want to be disappointed in the spring.

Holy Cross would be a safety for those schools. HC has a great alumni network-grads earn high salaries according to Payscale salary report. Holy Cross is also need-blind for admissions like Ivies. HC has great campus 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) ranked 25TH best LAC by recent US News has great mix of academics/athletics-plays Harvard and Dartmouth in most sports. Tufts has Div3 sports.
