Chances for JHU, UVA, Emory, etc.

Female
Chinese (born in China, came to US at 6)
first in family to attend college
High school junior

SAT I
best combined score 1430/2230
CR 750
M 680 (ouch)
W 800

PSAT: 221, 99th percentile, very good chance I will be Semifinalist/Finalist

My schedule is interesting. . .first off, I attend a rural-ish school in SC. Second, I’ve commuted daily since 9th grade to a secondary fine arts school to take Honors Creative Writing. This means that I can only take four classes a year at my normal high school, and due to, of course, scheduling complications, not all of them can be Honors/AP. In the regular classes I take, I make 100s, and except for a mediocre A-/B+ freshman year, my grades are decent. The more advanced classes I’ve been able to take are:
AP Eng III (exam: 4)
IB Eng
IB Hist
Honors: 2 English, 2 Math, 3 Creative Writing, 1 Biology, "A"s in all but Biology

GPA: 4.667 weighted (but it will go up to a 4.8ish by the end of this year); 3.8 or so unweighted

Class Rank: 2 out of 269

Have not taken SAT subjects but plan to.

-My parents have a small Chinese restaurant, and I’m required to work there every day. That leaves very little space for ECs, but I do have:
NHS
Volunteer tutoring, a couple of hours a week
My fine arts school has no yearbook class, so since last year I’ve initiated a group to produce a yearbook on our own time; I’m editor/project manager and this year am doing basically all the work for it.

-Not many awards, sadly; these include the requisite “highest grade” awards for a specific class, and also:
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: freshman year Regional Silver in poetry; sophomore year Regional Gold in Short Story, Short Story and Poetry and National Gold in Short Story (Gold in Nationals is the highest for a non-senior)
Local college publication: freshman year first place in fiction; sophomore year publication.
Still waiting to hear from those for this year.

This summer I will be attending the Summer@Brown program, 7-week credit course for Intro to Calculus and Latin (I’m on a scholarship).

Colleges:
Johns Hopkins
UVA
Emory
Univeristy of Chicago
Williams
Vanderbilt
Washington University in St. Louis
Northwestern

Thank you so much!

I think that you’re a good match to slight reach for all your schools. Awesome stats!

bump, please.
