Chances for me? ill do urs back!

Hey! I am a sophomore this year out of state (washington) at a somewhat competitive school…

Since I have 2 years left, I will list the classes i woudlve taken…

APs (8): Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, Environmental Science, Calculus, Calculus BC, Psychology

Honors: English 9, History 9, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra 2,

Language: 4 years of Spanish

GPA 9th: 3.55 | 3.617
GPA 10th: 3.89 | 4.0
GPA 11th: Lets assume 3.8 | 4.0
GPA 12th: Lets assume 3.8 | 4.0

SAT scores… haven’t taken SAT, but PSAT score was 1760, but I feel I can get about a 2100 on the SAT, so lets count that.

Extracurriculars: I am an official chess master, and ranked top 20 in the USA, Co-President of Chess Club at school, Led the school to win National High School Chess Championship.
I won HIgh School State Chess Champion this year

Participated in Math Club and Math Competitions, (nothing outstanding, but soon to be!)

Also, helped teach chess students, will run chess camps in the future, etc

Thinking of doing track, basketball, tennis, and some other sports for the school - and all of them i am pretty good at (if that makes a difference)

What’s my chances at Cornell University? Be honest please! Tell me what I need to work on!

This is one of my favorite colleges and I would love to get in.

Congratulations on being a chess master at such a young age (my Dad was one). This is no easy task, so good on you!

Keep doing what you’re doing. Seems like you are on the right track!

As a sophomore, you really can’t be chanced… You’re assuming you’re gonna get a 4.0. You’re assuming you’re gonna take 8 APs. You’re assuming you’re gonna improve 400 points on the SAT. You’re assuming you’re gonna join 3+ varsity sports.

As or right now, your SAT is way below Cornell and all of your ECs can fit in one line (all related to chess) Obviously this can all significantly change in a year, I’m not trying to discourage you.

Come back in a year or so and ask again. Or, if you must, rephrase your question to “what can I do to improve my Cornell chances?”, and list specific choices you’re gonna have to make in hs (classes, ECs, etc.)

^ Agreed. Without a concrete GPA or SAT score, it’s all up in the air. It’s great that you’re looking to get a head start, but as an underclassman you’re still a bit too early. Please don’t think about joining activities for the sake of getting into college–do it because you want to, not because you think it’ll enhance your resume or something.

If you really want to be “chanced”, right now you look like a mid-match for UW. No comment on Cornell.

Best of luck!

I never understood the “chance me, i’ll chance you” threads…if you cannot accurately gauge whether or not you are going to be a viable applicant, how could you chance other people?

That being said, it’s probably too early to tell, but you’re definitely on the right track. Get more involved. +1 for the chess stuff, but admissions likes to see diversity in activities, or activities that tie into your college/major at Cornell.

you should think of it this way. you are worthy of Cornell. now go study and improve as much as possible.
