Chances for NYU, UVA, etc.?

Im a rising senior from Chicago at a top college prep public school, and I’m a white male. No hooks, unless being LGBT counts. I plan on majoring in business, with a minor in either music or theatre. I started “high school” in 8th grade through a special program at my hs, and so I have been a year ahead in all my classes.

Academics
GPA: 3.75 uw(upward trend since 8th grade), 4.7 w
ACT: 33 composite, 34 superscore
Subject Tests: n/a, getting the scores back next week, but fairly confident
Rank: school does not rank, but Im somewhere in the top 20% in a class of almost 1100
Class Rigour: Consistently take the hardest classes I can, almost entirely honors or AP. The only regular courses I have taken/will take are PE classes(which are mandatory regular courses) and drama 3(only drama 1 and 2 are honors at my school)
AP: I’ve taken 7 AP classes, will take 3 more senior year, and have passed all of them
Freshman year- Human Geo
Sophomore- Physics, Lang, APUSH
Junior- Literature, Latin, World
Senior-Euro, Macro, Calc AB

Extracurriculars
These are mainly theatre and music focused, and I plan on milking that in my essays. Although there are not many EC’s, they are all very time consuming and heavy duty.
-President/ founder of a non-profit. The program puts on a concert series by Chicago area teenagers, and the proceeds of the concerts help fund field trips for underprivileged Chicago Public School students to see live theatre. CPS is a mess right now, and I truly wanted to provide kids the opportunity to see live theatre. We’ve raised over $4,000 and we are slated to send our first field trip off this fall! I guess this is me being cynical about CC, but I want to make clear that I did not form this program for getting into college, and I expect this will be clear in my essays.
-Singer with major children’s choir in Chicago: intense choral program, 50+ performances in a school year, been a part of it since 6th grade and have risen through the ranks. Lot’s of focus on working to help bridge segregated Chicago neighborhoods.
-School Musicals and Plays- consistently have gotten leads in musicals, and I have helped direct some plays at my school. Pretty much busy the entire school year with the program
-Voice lessons and Acting classes consistently since sophomore year
-Cantor at my church
-President/founder of my school’s drama club
-vice president/founder of my school’s latin club
-Summer camp counselor at my grade school’s day camp, have worked there since seventh grade

My List
Is this accurate? should I add more safeties/matches? I’m looking to go out east/big ten.
Reach
-Dartmouth
-Princeton
-Columbia
-UVA
-Umich
-NYU Stern(top choice ED)
-Northwestern
-Georgetown

Match
-Northeastern
-Boston College
-Indiana University

Safety
-Fordham
-Temple

I would honestly say you have a shot at every school on your list. Umich is by no means a reach. I would put it in match. Indiana could be a safety school.

Chance me back

Thanks! Any other opinions?

bump.

anyone please? Sorry to sound desperate lol

  1. 8th grade doesn't count.
  2. What are your individual AP scores? By "passed all of them" do you mean all 3s, mixture of 4s and 5s, all 5s? Depending on your scores, your college prospects can increase or decrease. However, you sound like a smart enough kid so I'll assume you did fine for the most part.
  3. Accomplishments are very good- as a theatre person myself, I love your non-profit idea! Any opportunities for me to join in the future ;) ?

Overall I think you have a great shot at all these schools, NYU Stern is definitely within reach. To increase your chances, maybe take an SAT II Math test? I think that could help and not hurt in the long run.

I have two chance me threads, can you take a look at both?

Hi! Your scores are great and your extra-curriculars are outstanding

Here is the grouping I think is most realistic for you:

SAFETY

  • Indiana University
  • Fordham
  • Temple

MATCH

  • Northeastern
  • NYU Stern (I really think you have a great shot)
  • Boston College
  • University of Michigan

REACH

  • Dartmouth
  • Princeton
  • Columbia
  • UVA
  • Northwestern
  • Georgetown
  • Yale

You should have absolutely no problem getting into your safeties, and I think you have a great chance at the 3 matches above. I also put Yale as a reach because (even though you want to go into business) it has an amazing drama program, and I don’t think it’s unrealistic for you. If you don’t mind chancing me, please dm me!!! Thanks so much and best of luck:)

@hyungiwosotha thanks for replying!

  1. about 8th grade, I was taking actual high school classes and they have always been factored into my official gpa, and my counselor said that the grades for that year will show up on my transcript so ???
  2. I thought you didn’t send AP scores to colleges for admission? I have almost all fours except for a 3 in physics and Latin and a 5 in Human Geography.
  3. Thanks! it’s been a great project to be a part of.
I took the SAT 2 in June, scores come out next week.

@tryingforharvard thanks for the reranking! And about Yale, I do love their drama program, and would probably also major in economics at schools that don’t have undergrad business. Same case with Northwestern. Although I want to get out of the Chicago area, their drama and econ programs are top notch and everything I would want in a college.

@mtinchicago

  1. If they were high school classes, they should show up. My mistake, I apologize.
  2. Send the 4's- that looks pretty good and is better than sending nothing. 4's and 5's are always good for admissions

Can you chance me back at both links if you have the time?
