Hi, I’m a Korean American in Korea (attend an international school here); I’m stronly considering applying EA to Chicago because imo it has the strongest undergrad. religion department in the country. The Divinity school at Chicago promotes and teaches the undergrad program, and inevitably, the religion courses are geared more stronly towards Christianity. My other top choice I am very likely applying ED to is Vanderbilt, which also has a great religion program, but Chicago imo would better provide me for post studies in religion if I decide to continue.

GPA unweighed: 3.3
SAT: took it on Sunday, expecting 2100+
SATII’s in January - math level 2, u.s. history
ap: u.s. history - 4, ap english language - 4
current ap’s: english lit, psychology, european history

E.C’s
-bronze medalist in Korean national junior squash champs
-3rd place in squash for Seoul provincials
-competed in many pro tournaments
-rainbow youth select orchestra, principal cellist (8 yrs)
-200 hours of volunteer
-church orchestra, principal cellist
-Model UN (international conference in beijing, etc.)

Factors:
-I’m a Seventh Day Adventist, and I turned down several ivy squash recruitments down because i can’t play on saturdays - will include this in my essays
-top 5 U19 junior squash player in Korea (national recognition i guess, albeit non-academic)
-only person applying EA to Chicago from school if I apply
-3/6 applicants last year admitted
-great recommendations
-very strong interest in religion

Worries: low gpa

For now, I’m thinking that if I get over 2250 on my SAT’s, I should apply EA to Chicago, but what are your honest opinions? Would I have a chance if I have an extreme interest in religion? Many people think I’m nuts for wanting to major religion in college, but I have several reasons I want to pursue religion, and these factors would be addressed in my essays. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
