Chances for Science/engineering schools

Hey everyone, can I get a chanced at these schools? Air Force Academy, Cornell, GaTech, RHIT, and Purdue? These are all of the schools I am thinking of applying to right now, can you think of any others that are similar/ I have a good shot at?

I applied to the AFA’s summer seminar already. No matter where I go I will likely do AFROTC, so could you give me some chances on an ROTC scholarship as well?

Other things to note: Taking SAT II in Chem. and Math lvl 2 right after my respective AP and IB tests in those areas, expecting to do well (700+). Retaking the SAT during spring break, that first sitting was cold, no studying, so my math score will definately go way up, it had been a while since I had had geometry/algebra.

I think thats it, sorry about the three posts, it cut me short after like 3 lines if I tried to do it all in one or two… Thanks for your honest opinion and any constructive criticism you have for me!

Bump. .

Comon’ you guys, this is the only post that has hit page two without being answered at least once…

I think you have a very good shot at USAFA and any ROTC scholarships. (Make Eagle! and get your General class ham license–because that’s cool/looks good too.)

I’d reccomend the USAFA forum, for further advice.

p.s. Don’t bump your thread every couple hours.

OK, thanks for the response.
I just kind of assumed that once a post hits page two, it doesnt get looked at/answered, is this untrue?

Cornell: pretty good chance.

OK, I want to pull this post back up to tack on one more school: Rice. Just found out about this school and it seems perfect, but can I get in? The only new bits of info. that I can add is that I got into the Academy Summer Seminar (Yeah!) and that my science olympiad team got second in regionals, and we are now going to state (I got two second place medals out of three events I ended up competing in). I will get my second SAT scores back on April 4.

One more question also. Assuming my SAT math doesnt go up (this is hypothetical I am hoping it does) or it just breaks 700 or something, will this hurt my chances at getting into engineering programs at schools. Will they look at me and say: “This kid wants to do something he is not suited for”? Engineering and or science is DEFINATELY what I want to do with my life, but the high reading just comes from being addicted to reading books from an early age, and I tend to overthink on the standardized math tests. If it is a significant disadvantage, would applying to science programs be better as they are slightly less mathematically inclined than engineering?

Thanks again!

Bump. .

Air Force Academy: no idea
Cornell: 50% chance
GaTech: you are in
RHIT: you are in
Purdue: you are in

Don’t go to Rose. When I got accepted, their aid was really bad. Go to cornell if you get in. Good luck w/ the others.

Oh and consider Harvey Mudd. ;)

Harvey Mudd seems a bit on the small side, sure RHIT is small, but not THAT small. Plus I dont think my parents would want me to go all the way to California for college, although I wouldnt have a problem with it.

Can I get UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins added to Rice? I am interested in their cognitive science majors. Only things I can think to add are 32 on the ACT, SAT went up to 2260, and second at science olympiads at state.

Also, I am looking at getting some kind of work experience this summer, and I would really like it to be some kind of scientific research or something. Any advice on that?

Thanks again.

We are small but there are 4 other colleges and two graduate schools right here. There are essentially 6,000 college students on the Claremont Consortium campus and interaction among the colleges is extremely high.

You might want to consider Carnegie Mellon- strong cognitive science program, and it’s fairly easy to take computer science classes no matter what your major. I think it’s around the size that you want, and tends more towards engineering/science school. There aren’t very many people declared with a primary major in cog sci (many computer science take it as a second major), so that might help you. As is, I think it would probably be a match/slight reach, with SAT I math being your biggest weakness because if its importance to the computer science part of the major.

you have an excellent chance at all of the schools you’ve just listed, some engineering college to consider: columbia (fu foundation), MIT (reach, but possible), cooper union, maybe RPI
