Chances for the single Democrat in Kansas?

I’m a senior at an eastern Kansas public high school (KC area to be specific) applying to NU as an International Relations/Poli Sci major, and here’s a quick stat run-down…

-35 ACT (woo-hoo, and on the 1st taking)
-3.75 UW GPA, 4.25 W GPA
-Rank: 34/400 (yup, just barely in the top 10%)

-APs:

Freshman: AP Euro
Sophmore: AP Statistics
Junior: AP US History, AP English, AP Chemistry
Senior: AP Psychology, AP Calc AB, AP Government, AP Macroeconomics (self-study), AP Microeconomics (ditto)

-ECs:

-Orchestra: I am a cellist, active for all 4 years of HS (and 5 years previously), and in class for 3 (decided to free up the hour during senior year, mainly b/c I wasn’t learning anything from the class), but I still practice on my own free time through private lessons and self-study (and I teach my 11yo sister who loves the instrument too, ha)

-Debate: Soph-Senior year, have competed at the State tourney, have won a couple of Varsity tournaments and a few JV ones

several others, but not as important (I’ll list more if needed)

-Other notes:
-I’m hispanic; not sure if it’ll really do anything though
-I have shown a large amount of interest in the school (have visited, interviewed very well)
-I have taken 4 courses (College stats, calc, and 2 advanced english ones) at a local private college my father teaches at (not particularly prestigious at all, but tuition was free)
-My family’s income is >$60k for 6 family members, and 2 will be attending college within 2 years

Thanks in advance for anyone that comments; if you have any questions, I’ll answer them ASAP.
BTW, do you believe NU will give a large amount of (primarily need-based) aid to me, especially given my financial situation?

Good shot.

you have a great shot. Of course the essay holds much importance, so focus a lot of your time on that. I spent about a month or more on mine.
To your question, my friend at Northwestern is attending for practically no tuition because of his financial need. Because Northwestern doesn’t give merit-based money, they mean serious business when they give need-based aid. You’d probably go for close-to-nothing.

Good shot. Being Hispanic will probably add to your application. Just do well on the essays-- especially the statement. Convince them! lol

I can’t chance you, but I would like to note that you’re not the single democrat in Kansas, and not the only one from the KC area applying at NU. :)
