Chances for (Too many) Colleges

-GPA: 3.98/4.0
-Rank: 6/343
-SAT I: 700/740/740 E:12 (Retake results in two days)
-SAT II: Math II: 800, Chem: 760, U.S. History 720

AP:
-Taken/enrolled in 9 APs (Self studying AP Calculus BC due to budget cuts)
-Calc AB: 5, Chem: 5, Language: 4, U.S: 4, World: 4
-Taking: Calc BC, Gov, Lit, Bio
-Took the absolute hardest courses available at my school (Counselor took note of it in the SSR)

Awards:
-Washington Scholar Nominee (3 per school)
-AP Scholar with Distinction
-Gold presidential Service Award

Extracurriculars:

-Mock Trial (10,11,12): President 11,12. I put a HUGE deal of emphasis on mock trial on my applications
-NHS (10,11,12): President 12. Tutoring Coordinator for the entire school. Managed logistics of matching up students and tutors and tutored quite a bit myself
-Hi-Q (12): Essentially quiz bowl. Didn’t do it to ‘pad’ my resume; I enjoy the trivia based challege. :stuck_out_tongue:
-Violin since 6: blah blah. I really didn’t put any emphasis into this fact, as violin has become a lot less important to me over time. I mentioned it, nonetheless as it does show dedication, perhaps.
-Environmental Club (11,12): I like the earth. Volunteered cleaning up the school. Pertains to my interest in chemical engineering. (finding solutions to the crap hole we call earth)

Volunteer/Work:

-Volunteered at a day camp over the course of three summers (750+ hours)
-Tutor underprivileged (essentially homeless) students foundations for music through an outreach program (100+ hours)
-Tutoring via Tutor system: peer tutoring, pretty self explanatory (50+ hours)
-Worked full time during the summer at the same day camp I volunteered at in previous years.

My profile is pretty slim, I know. In a way, I almost want it to be short. My only real passion outside of the classroom was mock trial, and I made sure that dedication came through in supplements.

Other things:

Recommendations: All of them should be amazing, especially the counselor rec. One from my AP Calc AB teacher, other is from AP Chem’s teacher.

Essays: My common app essay talks about my academic individuality (which is important to me)

The supplement essays all tend to revolve around balancing left and right brain thinking.

Hooks: First Generation Student

Asian male from WA

Income bracket: <$25,000 (single parent, father is disabled)

Intended Major: Chemical Engineering

Schools:
John Hopkins University
Tufts University
Carnegie Mellon University
Brown University
Cornell University
Columbia University
Northwestern University
Washington University in St. Louis
UC Berkeley
UCLA
Stanford University
University of Pennsylvania

Ok, sorry if this came out pretty wordy. Some things to take note: I really emphasized my individuality through the essays. I didn’t want to seem like ‘just another asian’. Contrary to what I said, I did take the SATs a third time, and expecting 2300+ in two days.

Also, I do have my in-state safety, in case you were wondering

Thanks in advance!

CHANCE ME BACK CHILD

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1052041-chance-me.html

Ah, I’m aware of ‘Tufts Syndrome’. I really do want to go there, though. Tuft’s would take priority over most of the schools I’m applying too, and I made sure my essays/optional essays for Tufts reflected a genuine interest in their school.

All those are really close in difficulty, so I’d say you’ll get into about half of them.

@WingsReborn

That’s why I applied to as many schools as I did. To be frank, when I applied to them I only really had interest in going to a few of them (UC berkeley, tufts, northwestern, stanford), I would like to have some choices when it comes to deciding on which college I want to attend, though.

That doesn’t go to say that I didn’t put effort into all of the colleges I applied to, though. God knows how much research I did for every "Why insert college name essay…
