Chances for UCs and CSUs?

Here are the bonus points for HS rigor:
The bonuses in order of power are (min semesters/max total semesters/bonus per extra semester/total possible bonus): math 6/10/125/500 (note: stats and finite do not count), lab science 4/8/50/200, English 8/10/50/100, foreign language 4/8/25/100, visual performance 2/4/25/50, no bonus points for social sciences or electives.

So if took Algebra/Geometry in Middle school, then you should get the maximum for Math-500. You should get maximum for Science, English nothing, VPA nothing and a 100 for Foreign Language which gives you 800 but as stated in the MCA information, the maximum is capped at 750.

@Gumbymom Okay so I took AP Calc AB senior year, that would mean I got the max 750 points, with a MCA of 4621. Also what is Ca vet/701?

CA vet means if either of your parents are a Veteran, you get some bonus points.

My dad is a vet how many points do they add?

My mistake, you have to be a veteran to get the bonus points, not a son or daughter of a veteran.

@Gumbymom can you link me to the graph you used that states the percent of students accepted based upon GPA>

@Sterny16: It is not a graph but target projections.
Take FTF target multiply by 3 and then divide by FTF apps to get a projected acceptance rate.

@Gumbymom I remember you sharing something that had the GPA and then a percent of applicants that were accepted based on that GPA range, it was on the UC website I believe this is for UCs not CSUs

Here is the link: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/freshman-admissions-summary

Select Freshman admit rate, the campus and HS GPA. Select the range and look at the most recent data point which should give you the percentages. I also have the same information in table form compliments for another CC poster.

Historical UC GPA for Freshman:
Campus 4.20- 3.80- 3.40- 3.00-
higher/ 4.19/ 3.79/ 3.39
UCB: 46%/ 12%/ 2%/ 1%
UCLA: 53%/ 14%/ 3%/ 1%
UCSD: 88%/ 39%/ 6%/ 1%
UCSB: 88%/ 49%/ 13%/ 2%
UCD: 89%/ 53%/ 11% / 3%
UCI: 97%/ 56%/ 16%/ 4%
UCSC: 95%/ 83%/ 47%/ 10%
UCR: 99%/ 90% / 64%/ 25%
UCM: 98%/ 92%/ 80%/ 42%

@Gumbymom okay, that makes sense. So for UCLA or UCSD if a student had a 4.20 W and Capped and a 3.8UW (16 As 4Bs Max Honors Credits) and a 32 ACT what would there chances be? Where would you put them on the match-reach scale? Reason I am asking is because my little brother (Junior) will most likely have this GPA and already got his ACT back (32) and really wants to go to UCLA or UCSD. IDK this matters but he had to get surgery like 4 times his 1st semester of Sophmore year and 3 of his 4Bs were during Sophmore year 1st semester.

Quick question for me: I ideally want to go to UCI or UCSD (Banking on UCI) what is major switching policy? I’m not sure I like the major I chose as I just took AP Econ and I really loved it.

For UCSD, he would have a good chance. UCLA is always a tough admit and it could go either way 50/50. Definitely worth his time applying and he could address his hospitalization and lower grades with one of the personal insight questions.

@Gumbymom I sent you a direct message question
