Chances for UCs, Stanford, and Ivies

Universities I’m applying to: Brown, UChicago, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, UPenn, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, MIT, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCI and UCB. Also applying to some art schools: RISD, Cooper Union, Parsons, and SAIC.

Ethnicity: Chinese
Gender: Female
Languages: Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, learning ASL
Intended major(s): Biological Sciences, graphic design or illustration (I want to double major)
Income: Middle-Upper Class
Parents: Chinese Immigrants
Legacy: Harvard and MIT (I know MIT doesn’t do legacy though)
*However, parents went to these schools for graduate studies, so I’m unsure to whether I’m actually considered legacy or not

I am an international student from Canada considered domestic for California, but not eligible for financial aid of any kind.

Academic Stats:

  • 1510 SAT
  • 4.0 unweighted gpa, 4.3ish weighted gpa
  • 780 SAT II biology E
  • 720 SAT II Math
  • School doesn't rank
  • Taking AP tests in spring of 2018
  • Taking AP Biology currently

I’m thinking about not sending in my math sat, because the score is quite low.

Extracurriculars:

  • Research at Local University (4 years)
  • Presented at international conference for graduate students and researchers, and am planning to present at another in conference in South Korea in 2018
  • Published in two scientific magazines
  • Science club (4 years)
  • Science Fair Regional Gold Medal Winner
  • Track and field (3 years)
    • Won several individual and relay events
  • Varsity Badminton (3 years)
  • Arts Club (4 years)
    • Lead stage designer for school play, Designed stage layout, background, props, and led painting team
    • Painted part of a mural for a mental health awareness event at the local hospital which featured an olympian
  • DECA (2 years)
    • In grade 9/freshman year I went to Internationals, and was an exec in grade 10, but found that business wasn't something I wanted to pursue, so I stopped doing DECA.
  • Founded an ancient languages club

Low. Noone has good chances at the majority of these schools. My guess is that you will get into one of the ivies, and then most of the others.

Sorry, Im including, chicago and duke with the ivies. I don’t think you have particularly high chances at any of the schools you listed. You, like many other high school seniors, seem to be very focused on the rank of the college and not the fit.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply. I’ve looked for schools with a strong arts background and general sciences background, and will definitely read up more on the environment and the fit for me. MIT is currently my top choice but I know it’s super hard to get in, so not expecting too much. However, I had a really good interview, so hopefully that helps a bit.
