GPA: Cumulative W: 4.5

Not sure of class rank but will be in the top 15% most likely out of 400+ students

Rigorous course load in a magnet center and will have taken 7 total AP classes
will send in a score of 4 on AP pysch exam

Earned all A’s and B’s in classes throughout high school

SAT: writing 570, CR: 600, math: 530 (working to improve all areas for October and November test dates)

Will have positive teacher letters of rec.

Will have strong essays

EC’s:
Summer internship at a non-profit that works to fight world hunger, interning in human resources department. (80 hours)

Serving as an intern with a non-profit throughout the upcoming year (competetive fellowship program, only one student selected from each major city in the US, requires me to lead and host

4 years of a varsity sport

National Honor Society Member

Spent 10 days building homes in nicaragua (80 hours)

Peer tutor in a school mentoring program (weekly, gave up my study halls to tutor)

Student leader/mentor in an school club that works with middle school students to prepare them for Highschool (35 hours each year)

Volunteers with special needs students to teacher good sportsmanship and basic tennis skills on weekends at my school

Has held five different board positions at the city chapter of the B’nei Brith Youth Organization and attended the organizations chapter leadership summer training program.
(historian, treasurer, head of social action, head of recruitment and new member education (2 terms), and currently serving as head of communications/secretary)

Ambassador level of girl scouts: worked with troop to lead programs on self image and confidence for middle school girls in our community

You have some good stats and good EC’s. That SAT score currently is going to hurt you very bad, though. Until that score goes up or you get a 30+ on the ACT, I think both are reaches. Once you get the SAT to 2000+, though, it should put you to a high match.

Can you afford both schools OOS tuition ?

With those SAT scores, I don’t think there’s a good chance as an OOS. Both of those schools are mostly instate students.

UT and UF have to consider GPA more heavily for INSTATE students (UT accepts top 7% GPA for instate). However, for OOS students, they’re more likely going to accept the high test score students so that those scores will help compensate for the low scores that they had to accept instate.

There’s little reason for them to accept someone from OOS with modest test scores.

Most publics care very little about ECs, etc. They admit mostly by stats. They get too many apps to afford to “human eye” a bunch of details.

What is your budget?

Maybe you need to have your DD apply to Test Optional schools.

If money is no object then have her apply to other state flagships that want more OOS students.

^^ This is good advice.

I think it would be useful to know your UW GPA, but those SAT scores are really low for UT and UF, with an 1130 M+CR I’d put your chances at slim to none, work on those!
