Actually its for a friend. He thinks he has no shot but I disagree.

White male
GPA: 3.87 UW, no weighted GPA
Rank: 22/450 in average suburban public school
ACT: 33
APs: Calc BC, Lang, American Govt all 5s. Taking Stat, Lit, US History, Physics C (both Mechanics and E&M) this year, will probably get all 5.
Main ECs: Captain of cross country and track teams. 5th in the state for cross country in largest division, in contact with coaches, probably a borderline recruit status. Some other minor ECs.
Recs: assume very good
Essays: assume very good

What are his chances for RD? How important is it that he be considered an athletic recruit? Also, what should he say to the coaches to try to get them to help him in the admissions process?
Thanks

Reach for all, I mean the stats are very good but nothing amazing that would make him/her stand out in a pile of apps. Best of luck, though!!

Which school @ Cornell? Some of them have extremely different acceptance stats. Brown is probably the most difficult to get into of the 4 colleges mentioned.

Hmmm. Woudn’t the recruited athlete status help him?
Also, he has had a lot of hardships in his life, from family to financial, that he could write about in his essays. So even assuming well written essays with great material, along with possible recruited athlete status, he still would not likely have a chance at any of these schools? He also has a strong community service background.
What else could he do to further his chances at an ivy league school?
