Applying Upenn College of Arts and Sciences early decision

2280 SAT (800m, 780writing, 700cr)
770 math level 2
700 literature

3.85 GPA (take mostly IB courses)
- Junior Varsity Debate Team 1yr, VarsityDebate Team 2 years (Senior Year-Varsity Captain)
-Model UN (4 years), on the Secretariat of my school senior year
-President of club to help kids with cancer (4 years)
-100+ hours of community service

Also, I’m Caucasian

Chances???

I also do other clubs like DECA, Spanish Honors Society, National Honors Society, but don’t have leadership positions in those

SAT scores are solid, but the low CR may hurt a little(don’t take offense, because my CR score is the same haha). Good GPA in what seems to be a rigorous course, but maybe try to get it into the 3.9 range for added chance. Your ECs seem to be rather cliche with minimal leadership- this may hurt in the application process. But, with excellent recs and essays you should have an excellent chance early decision. Where else are you considering?

What about chances for schools like Vanderbilt, Emory, and WashU regular decision?

Best chance would be to ED at Vandy or Emory, especially if you’re from the NE or mid Atlantic.

^Agreed.

You’ve got a shot at Penn, your SAT is well within the right range and your GPA, although slightly on the low side by Ivy standards, definitely won’t render you unacceptable. You’re an unhooked applicant, though, so it’ll be difficult.

You can apply ED at Vanderbilt, Emory, or WashU. You’ll probably be accepted too. But it sounds to me like your unsure of which ED school you should apply to. Which is why I’m going to suggest that you apply to all these schools RD and don’t do ED. (You can do Early Action if you want since it’s not binding, but I wouldn’t do Early Decision).

ED is for kids who absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, know where they want to go to college, and you sound uncertain. Also, money usually isn’t an issue for them, since they’re legally bound to attend if accepted, regardless of finanical aid offer(s). These are all things to take into account before making your final decision.

Best of luck! :)

I’d say you have a solid shot at UPENN.
and I’d say your almost guaranteed in for Emory, Vanderbilt and WashU
I have heard Emory’s nice!

I’m actually 100% sure on Penn- no where else I’d be as happy at without question.
However, I do have to prepare myself to apply to other schools if I get rejected. Which is why I’m asking about the others.
What about Cornell, Northwestern, Duke, etc. (all RD)
