GPA: non-transferable, 3.63; transferable 3.73 (will be 3.8+ given a 4.0 this semester, which is plausible, but who knows, right? Definitely won’t go lower than 3.7 though)

Will have Category I, II, III and V GEs, Diversity, and lower-division math+writing requirements all finished by the end of this semester. Will have third-semester foreign language requirement done by Spring 2009 (I’m applying for Fall 2009 admission).

I’ve worked at the USC Dept. of Ophthalmology since November 2007 30-35 hours/week (though I’m not on the USC payroll, so no tuition cut for me :().

Lastly, I’m not sure if the following is at all relevant, but I am a male Hispanic, first-generation college student, lower-bracket income level. Does USC consider any of the latter?

A more deserving white applicant? I work almost full time to pay bills at home and still have never had the money to buy ANY books yet I’ve only gotten two transferable B’s in the last two years – the rest A’s.

Or by more deserving white applicant do you mean a rich legacy student with a 3.1? Because we all know the USC admissions and race distribution statistics.

You should get over your sensitivity Grey. It’s pretty clear that by bringing up you were Hispanic you were looking for someone to tell you that it would improve your chances over a white person.

Actually, no. I was sincerely curious as to whether or not USC considers ethnicity. My other choices are UCs and by law UCs can not use ethnicity to assess a student. So I really could care less if it helps my chances or not. I’m not insecure nor naive enough to believe that opinions on here (especially yours) are somehow going to sway some USC adcoms.

You seem like the “they’re coming over and taking all our jobs!” type. Seems like you’re the sensitive one.

Hey Grey, I transferred into to USC this semester, and I think you have a good shot. We have nearly identical SAT scores and transferable GPA, although I did apply to a different school (Engineering). Anyway, race really is not a factor in acceptance, so don’t get worked up by the ill-advised comments made by MK.
