My gpa weighted is a 2.6. Have taken 11 honors/AP classes. got a 4 on calc ab exam and want to go for engineering
have a 4.0 unweighted (4.8) with 4 ap classes my senior year. 3.3 gpa weighted junior year. (my sophomore year killed me with a 1 something

1300 M+CR sat score…one-time sitting
1900 total …one time sitting

I am going to take it again in january btw to try and get a 2100.

What do you think my chances are with the 1900 score? I heard someone on this thread say UT cares a lot more about SAT scores, which is good because I have near 75th percentile for school average

thanks!

PS: I am applying for summer session and I’m a white male senior

EDIT: Also, if you think my chances are bad right now. Do you think I should send my January Scores after I take it that way I won’t have to appeal once I’ve gotten my better (hopefully) sat scores from January? Or is 1900 high enough for sending my application now? thanks !

I presume this is lower than the average of admitted students, since those students will more likely end up at more prestigious schools. So a 1900 would be quite a bit below average. I’m not sure if they’ll accept scores from January for admission

You’ll find that the quadrant you land in isn’t that green. A 1900 probably isn’t competitive. You’ll need to excel holistically in your application to be admitted.

i dont think I believe that the engineering has the highest scores. Many (more than 50% of the math/science people I know suck at reading/writing so I doubt that a 700 math score would warrant a 2000+ SAT score. I think for the general admission to be 200 points lower than the engineering is wrong. My score is near the 75% for general applicants. Maybe I could switch in?

I also have a low GPA: 3.26 (out of 4) unweighted and a 3.51 weighted. Ive taken 4 APs and 4 college courses and basically the rest of my classes are honors. My ACT composite is a 26. Im white and attend school high school in New York. My number one choice was university of miami but i got deferred from there so I’m hoping i get into UT. I applied to just the main undergraduate studies at UT because I definitely can’t get into the business school with those grades. Nothing is guaranteed though especially with UT having an acceptance rate of under 50%, wouldn’t be shocked if i didn’t get in. My advice to you would be to apply to undergraduate studies as well just so you hopefully get in and keep a decent GPA there and then switch into the engineering school. good luck!

Chance me threads are not going to give you a good estimate on your chances. That said I too am awaitng the decision so I know exactly why people post them (I have as well). Go on UT Austin’s website and look for what they look at in a applicant. You will find that they do not consider GPA during the admissions process. For those who have posted: what is your class rank? Are you instate or out of state? You class rank is going to be one of the most important factors during admissions - your SAT/ACT score is a close second. If you high school does not rank then UT Austin will assign you a rank based upon your GPA and your high school report - this is the only time where GPA comes into play, and it is unsure how much it matters. The average SAT for OOS students is 1946 by the way. Dont trust sites that have scatterplots for admissions, as they do not factor in OOS or IS status. OOS students have to get better scores to be considered since they will be competing for 25% of the slots reserved for freshman admissions. Good Luck to everyone, and remember that UT’s website is full of knowledge that could answer almost every question you have - you just have to look.

what r my chances based on my target sat score? please help me

@black21 Well, if you did achieve your target SAT, your chances could be decent as an international student, but to jump up almost 800 points on the SAT is INCREDIBLY unlikely and your current SAT section scores are not only below the average for UT, but also the national average. Have you taken the TOEFL? But on the bright side, UT doesn’t really look closely at GPA. I think they only use it if they need it to estimate a class rank. If I were you I would study like you’ve never studied for that SAT, and hope for the best. ChemE is a pretty competitive major. Good luck!

UT Austin is my dream school, I honestly want to study PetE there and my 2nd choice is ChemE or Petroleum Geology or Geological Engg. I’ve taken TOEFL iBT and got 105/120. I study in an american school …i’ll be getting letter of recommendation from my counsellor, chem, physics and math teacher n also from my school principal and my dad’s colleagues because they have also graduated from UT Austin …so i’m hoping that these things will increase my chance in getting into ut austin…
