Right now I’m a Junior and I’m kinda worried about college. I’m East Asian male and I’m from NH. My unweighted GPA is 3.75 and my weighted GPA is 4.59. I’m part of the 15th percentile at my school. I know my GPA isn’t that great, because when I was young I had a speech problem where I could not talk and I would just be quiet or make random sounds nobody would understand, so I started learning at around 4th grade. I got a surgery when I was in first grade but it took a long time for me to develop speech (should I mention this in my apps?) My SAT total is a 2150, with a 780 in Math, a 740 in Grammar, and a 630 in CR. I absolutely love computer programming, but however, I did start late (I started in my sophomore year). Currently, I know Java, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, as well as PHP. I have not started any awesome computer programming applications yet because I just started and I am not that advanced. For AP tests, I got a 4 on my AP Statistics test and currently I am taking AP Calculus AB and AP Computer Science.
For extracurricular activities, I am the current President of our school’s Table Tennis Club (we have around 20-30 members per week coming), a member of the A Team of our Science Team (we have two teams and I got an award for one of my events last year), I’m part of the Math Team, the Current Events Club, as well as a student run online newspaper site as a writer, and I’m part of our school’s Varsity Tennis Team. I know how to play a lot of instruments which include the piano (I know how to piano improv), the alto and tenor saxophone, the clarinet, as well as a little bit of guitar. I volunteer at a nearby Chinese Language School where I am a Teacher’s Assistant and I help the teacher teach. For job experience, over the summer when I went to visit my family my aunt got me a job as a Teacher’s Assistant again where an American was teaching Chinese kids (from age 3-12) and I helped him translate because he did not speak much Mandarin.
For recommendations, I plan on getting one from my AP Computer Science/Web Page Design teacher (the same teacher teaches both classes) and I think I am going to get a very good one because I always help other students when they need it and sometimes even my teacher calls me up if she has a problem on her computer (I am very good with computers.)
I do not know if I would get a good recommendation from my guidance counselor because I do not frequently meet with her.
WPI is my top choice (applying EA)
One more thing, is there any other colleges I should apply to?
