chances for yale, stanford, and cornell

I have a really quick question.
I live in south dakota, I am caucasian, I have legacy to all these schools, I have taken the hardest course load possible, and I have a published science research paper amoung many other leadership positions. My SAT scores are 2310. I am also have been a 3 time member of the all state band on oboe. However my school does not weight grades so because of a bad freshman year I am only in the top 15% of my class.

Do I have a shot?
I know this isn’t much info

add more. what differentiates you, really?

Being from South Dakota helps you. As does being a legacy w/ excelletn SATs.

Without more details I think I can say you have as good as a shot as anybody. Write good essays and get good recs and there’s not much more you can do at this point, just hope luck goes your way in the Yale and Stanford admissions offices.

I think you’re in at Cornell though.

All state oboe, published, 2310, from South Dakota. Very strong profile. You should be in at Cornell, and above average chances for Stanford and Yale. Believe it or not, being a resident of South Dakota can be a significant hook.( Just don’t let Cornell know that it is your safety).

Thanks.
I am only a junior so I don’t have everything down just yet.

I will apply for governors school this summer, which is a project where a do hands on research for an entire month with professors at the university.

I am really interested in science so I will just have to really express that in my essays.
I am also very good friends with my counselor and I plan to get my english teacher and ap chem teacher to write my recommendations.

I have coffee with my english teacher all the time and I currently have a 100% in ap chem.

I will post more when I am closer to applying but I just wanted to know if I was reaching WAY to high.
THANKS!

actually maybe I don’t have a chance of getting in…
I spelt “too” as “to”

do you think if I apply to u of chicago or northwestern I should take the ACT?

Oops, and you also spelled “spelled” as “spelt”.

@ daphnetaggert: That is a correct alternate spelling of the past tense of “spell”.

Yes, take the ACT but not for Chicago and Northwestern, both “academic Ivies”, but for your benefit. Chicago and Northwestern, two of the five “Mid-Western Ivies”, will accept the more IQ oriented SAT as well as well as the more achievement oriented ACT. The advantage regarding the ACT is that this organization will only report scores specifically designated by you. In short, no harm, no foul is the mantra of the ACT.

Thanks for the information.

Those three will be my “reach” schools and I am applying to U of M for a safety, but I wasn’t sure where else I should apply for a safety or a match.
The most important thing I look for in a school is a mentally stimulating environment.

Does anyone have any ideas what schools might be good?

please??..

U of M as in University of Michigan? as a safety? seriously?

Oooh no, U of M as in University of Minnesota. North Dakota and Minnesota have a deal about in-state tuition so it would be a lot cheaper than the other 3 schools.

I don’t think University of Michigan is a safety for me, more like a reach.

Whats your GPA…

3.9… B’s in spanish for two semesters freshmen year and a B in gym also freshmen year.

I am now studying Latin and Chinese and am doing just fine in both, I hope this shows them that I am not completely horrible at languages.

…

bump…
