Oh my god you are amazing!! You have really good resume. Just focus on your essay. I think you will be fine:)

Good News: Not bad. Not bad at all. I would say you have a great chance, but to be honest 80 to 90 something percent of people who apply to ivy leagues “have a great chance”. You’re in that 80 to 90 something percent. Bad News: So are the other ~ 80 to 90 something percent of applicants.

No pluses from race, plus for being in a public high school, plus for being in the mid-west region, plus for high stats, and if you’re applying early, another plus. Plus for hooks: What is your hook? Plus for being a female going into a science field if that’s what you want (I read the community service part).

What are your essays like?

(…and the sigh of relief comes as I’m told I have decent chances.)

I am applying to Yale via early decision, and I plan on pursuing a molecular biochemistry major with the intent of studying neuroscience in the future. According to my horn tutor, being a talented French horn player is a surprising hook at Yale. He noted that they don’t see a great deal of exceptional musicians, let alone musicians on rare instruments, applying.

I had my main Common App. essay read by an admissions counselor friend of mine at a private high school, and she claimed it was phenomenal and would be sending it to several other counselors for continued review. I’m a self-published author, so my writing skills are there.

Good chances at Yale, but you never know! The fact that you are a white girl does not help you at all, but you seem well rounded and well qualified! Good luck!

Really, where did you get your work published at?

There are several websites online that offer publishing services, and I went through one of those. The books can run a bit costly, especially if one’s planning on producing mass copies, but there were an astounding amount of people willing to pay for them. It’s not the best route, but it’s completely independent.

How many people? I’m dying to know.

Probably somewhere in the range of fifty to a hundred. While this really doesn’t mean much in the realm of publishing, it surprised me because of the lack of active promotion I did.
