Chances for Yale

SAT score 2200, member/President of clubs, good ranking in class

Mid to high reach, as they are for everyone (as I’m sure you’ve heard). Honestly once your academics get up to a certain level it becomes a crapshoot. Try to write an essay that stands out but still speaks to you as a person.

You need a hook, something that makes you different than other applicants, an essay that portrays you not an adult, and killer grades.

Here’s my two cents:

1) If you can, try to score higher on the SAT. Top colleges care more about you having a high score than they do about the amount of times you’ve taken the ex (unless you take it like ten times…)

2) What does “good rank” mean? Do you have close to a 4.0 GPA unscaled? If not, is it near impossible to get straight A’s at your school?

3) Being the “president of some clubs” has little merit on college applications. What clubs do you lead and WHY? Why are you passionate about them? How long have you been involved in said clubs?

^No, the OP doesn’t need to score higher on the SAT. Once she (I’m assuming the OP is female) passes a certain point on the SAT, she doesn’t have to take more. Colleges don’t care if you have a 2300 or a 2200. Also, it can be detrimental if you take it say >5 times. It makes you seem as if you are only focused on that single thing.

Yale is a high reach.
