If you’re in a California private, I’m willing to bet that your school has a long history of sending students to USC, and that they keep pretty good statistical info on who goes where. Get ahold of the stats and a scattergram if possible to see the GPA/SAT scores of students from your school who are accepted and rejected by USC. Where do you fit on the scattergram? Also, talk with your GC. He undoubtedly has experience with USC admissions. Ask directly how good a shot you have in terms of other students from your school who’ve applied to USC. This is going to give you a lot better info than people who don’t know you or how USC deals with your school.

Nester is offering sound advice. However, I can tell you that this year’s admissions was significantly higher than what was on my son’s high school scattergram info.

Your GPA is well below average, but your URM status/personal hardships could make the difference. I’d put this as a reach but not impossible.

Keep working hard on grades first semester of senior year. That’s going to make a big difference as USC often asks to see them, not just for the first quarter. Good luck.
