Vintage, the school literary magazine 12 Vice President Vintage is an award-winning literary magazine that includes poems, short stories and art written and made by the students of the high school. As vice-president of the club I am in charge in organizing and obtaining pieces from various students. Additionally, I am in charge of editing the pieces and laying out the final product.
International Thespian Society 9-12</p>
<p>1 hour per week 9-12- Member The International Thespian Society is an internationally renowned organization of actors and technicians that hold holds yearly competitions to judge individual and ensemble performance. A certain amount of points are necessary to be admitted into the club, and I was one of the few freshmen who qualified to be in the club. As a member I aid in setting up fundraising events such as Improv Night.
Little Theater Productions 9</p>
<p>15 hours per week 9- Props Manager (stage crew) As the props manager for the Little Theater shows, I was introduced to the back stage responsibilities of theater. I was in charge of setting up and buying props for the show, You Cant Take it With You.
Science Club 9, 11-12</p>
<p>1 hour per week Peer Tutor Every Thursday I tutor both Regents and AP Biology to students who need help in the subject. </p>

<p>1 hour per week Member The Challenge is an academic television game show that tests high school students’ knowledge of history, arts and literature, science and math. Out of approximately fifty people who took the test, only the top four were chosen as contestants on the show. </p>

Camp Monroe Summer 2007</p>
<p>84 hours per week /7 days a week Camp Counselor As a camp counselor this past summer I worked with nine ten-year old boys. For eight weeks I assumed the responsibilities over the boys hygiene, dietary needs and personal needs.<br>
New York Academy of Sciences Summer 2006</p>
<p>32 hours per week/4 days a week Researcher As part of my first internship I learned the tricks of the trade of a genetics lab. I worked with the nematode C. elegans and with the help my mentor, searched for a mutated gene that allows for tumor suppression.

Researcher- Independent Study As a unique experience, I was able to pursue my own research in school after I had finished my internship over the summer. I ended up choosing to study the gene Lachrymatory Factor Synthase, the gene responsible for creating the protein that makes people cry when they cut onions. I submitted this project to the Siemens Competition and received Semi-Finalist recognition. </p>

Friends of Sheba for Tel Hashomer Hospital 9-12</p>
<p>5 hours per week during active season Tel Hashomer hospital in Israel is the largest medical facility in the Middle East. Today, I help the Friends of Sheba foundation (a not for profit organization) by helping mail out envelopes to Jewish families in the neighborhood to keep them aware of the great technological advances Tel Hashomer has provided. In addition, during the war in Israel in the summer of 2006 I helped write letters to people interested in giving charity to help the Burn Unit of the hospital that helped wounded soldiers. Today, I help in preparing PowerPoint presentations given out at local venues such as temples.
Peer Tutoring 12</p>
<p>3 hours per week As a peer tutor I help students in need of help in subjects such as biology, history and Spanish. I spend approximately one hour with a high school student. In addition, I tutor biology in Hebrew for a student in a local community college who just recently immigrated to America from Israel</p>

New York Academy of Sciences Summer Research Training Program Summer before 11</p>
<p>8 hours per week The Summer Research Training Program at the New York Academy of Sciences was a series of classes that met every Friday that included guest speakers, debates, and lessons on how to write a proper scientific paper.
Trip to the Galapagos Islands N/A As part of a program in my high school, I was one of twelve kids chosen to go to the Galapagos Islands out of an applicant pool of approximately forty students. The experience was perhaps one of the greatest events of my high school life. </p>
