NEED advice !!!

CMU wil llke your improvement but you really need to boost your scores. Tepper had a 19% acceptance rate and high SAT ranges. Apply ED if possible and try to get your mah scores up + SAT II science.

Hey ahmad19526, let me first start off by saying that colleges do prefer an upward curve in grades rather than a downward curve, but I think the rumor that “colleges really like upward curves” is very overrated. Substandard grades freshman and sophomore year (or just freshman year in your case) put one in a hole and can raise concerns that a student lacks intrinsic motivation and only worked hard the last few years because of trying to get into college and will stop working once he’s in college.

It doesn’t mean that one’s chances are totally destroyed, but it means that the rest of that person’s will just have to be that much more impressive. Hopefully your ACT score will be higher than you estimate (a 27 correlates to roughly a 1200 on the SATs, which wouldn’t be real good). The average SAT of students admitted to Tepper and to CIT are both around 1400 (though Tepper had a signifcantly lower acceptance rate). I would encourage you to apply if you really like CMU, but make sure you have safeties because I would say either Tepper or CIT would be a reach. Consider applying early (it would help your chances somewhat) and try to use your essays/teacher recommendations to depict you as being unique in some way.

Best of luck in the college process and feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

Thanks for your replies. I have a question, You said appy “early”. I havn’t took my SAT II yet, i delayed them so i can have enough time to study. I’m taking them nov 4. Would I be able to apply early without them, or do i have to put regular decision on my application.

Thanks again, and any advice and tips would help, because I reaallllllly want to go to CMU.

https://acis.as.cmu.edu/application/...pplication.pdf

“You may apply early decision without having taken the required SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing or SAT Subject Tests at the time of submitting your application; however, you should request that the test results be sent directly to Carnegie Mellon as soon as they are completed, but no later than December.”

So I think you’re fine with November test dates, as long as you have the results sent directly to CMU.

Thanks for telling me this i’m going to go apply now for ED. I thought i had to wait for regular decision. Thanks a lot bachovin, your information was very helpful.
