Chances mid year for Science School

My son is across the country at the University of Chicago. He is a freshman and is needed at home due to an illness in the family. We live very close to Carnegie Mellon. He was accepted to Carnegie Mellon and it was one of his top of the list schools, but the lure of the big city took him to Chicago.

He is very homesick so coming home to help out won’t be problem.
What are his chances mid-year. Does he have to reapply? If anyone can offer any advice please do.

Thanks so much

My friend’s son, a freshman, is transferring from a large southern state school to a university in Florida mid-year. It’s not official yet but the odds are good…he was accepted to the Florida school out of hs and surprisingly they still had most of his information. He just needed final hs grades, a recommendation and they’ll need his college grades. The timing will be tight but it most likely will happen.

Of course these schools are not on the level of UChicago and CMU…but given you have special family circumstances and that he was accepted to CMU previously, I wonder if they might make an exception to their policy. Good luck trying, let us know how you make out.
