Hello,

I am currently in the top 2% out of 1000 at Plano which is known for its competitive schools. My weighted gpa is 4.0. my unweighted gpa is 4.19 currently. I think i have good extracurricular activities and i love volunteering especially with mentally disabled kids. I only took 1 sat subject test which i got a 740 in chem and i only taken 1 ap test so far and go a 5 in human geography (nothing special). Im gonna be a junior this coming school year. I havent taken the SAT yet but I’ve taken many practice tests, and i have been consistenly getting low to mid 2000’s. I want to apply to top universities. Will my sat score ruin my chances to lets say stanford, duke, or john hopkins?

Low to mid 2000’s is not specific enough for me to say anything. Eheh.

You think you have good activities… well what are they?

ok for sat score around 2050

activites:
competitive table tennis player. 2005 junior olympics bronze medal in doubles
I’m in Asian American Youth Association which does a lot of volunteer work to organize educational programs for kids.
volunteer at the buddhist temple every week. and also coach of the chess club there
National honor society
french national society
orchestra
toastmasters
Laser (science club and science fair)
HOSA
(didnt get elected into any leadership positions) boohoo

you are asian! that’s not good! hurry, get plastic surgery and change your last name

2050 is fine. practice tests are terrible predictors of SAT scores. same deal with the PSAT. don’t worry. again, a 2050 isn’t going to kill you. try your hardest and get the highest score you can get, but if it doesn’t get any higher then don’t stress out. a 2050 is fine for JHU, it’s a LITTLE low for stanford and duke…aim for 2100 and if you get it be happy

jimbob1225: although practice test are bad predictors, what usually happens is ppl tend to get lower on the actual tests than on the practice test.

bigreddawgie: what i ur biggest problem on the SAT? (hopefully its not math…) if it is writing, go to sparknotes.com and they have a free study guide online. if its critical reading, just PRACTICE. if its math, again go to sparknotes.com and review. 2050 is still a little low at JHU, and plus ur asian.
however, u still have a shot if u show it in ur essays or ECs. for stanford and duke, raise ur sat score to at least 2200 or even 2250+ to have a legit shot.

also, assuming u live in Plano, TX, apply for the Welch Summer Scholar Program (its a chemistry research program.) Google it.

cooldude: well, i went up a hundred points from my PSAT and also from my blue book practice tests…judging from those I would have gotten a 2250 but i ended up with 2390. it is different for every person, so those practices are not reliable

Your unweighted is higher than your weighted? Did you take really stupid classes that cost you points or something? :)

um did i reverse my gpa stuff? dunno but i have all A’s. Math is no problem for me. I get 800s easily. Its the critical reading and writing.

yes i live in plano tx. i will look at the Welch Summer Scholar Program

ok i did reverse the weighted/unweighted
