Chances - NYU / Boston / Rutgers

Hello, thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

I’m a very concerned junior at a highly competitive public high school in California. I’m interested in business and finance. I believe I can get a number of recommendations from my teachers; however, not particularly exceptional.

How much does getting a ‘C’ in Pre-Calculus affect my chances?
How strong are my extra-curriculars?

GPA
Unweighted Cumulative GPA: 3.28
Weighted Cumulative GPA: 3.50
Unweighted 10-11 GPA: 3.13
Weighted 10-11 GPA: 3.50

I know this is a very weak point on my application, trying to raise it.

Schools
NYU ***
Northeastern University
Boston College
Boston University
University of Chicago
University of Washington
University of Michigan
Rutgers University

I’m mainly looking for top business schools on the East Coast, but considering other more realistic options.

Thanks once again for taking a peek or replying.

I need some realistic advice and some input, please.

University of Chicago
University of Michigan
NYU
Boston College
Boston University
Northeastern University
Rutgers University

University of Washington - Which one?

In order of where you have the chances to get in the least at the top and most at the bottom.

Giving another SAT II Subject Test will really help, also, trying to better your SAT score might get you into every college on your list.

Thank you so much for your post, Chromey.

Yeah, I plan on taking Literature and Math II in May after my AP Exams. I’m re-taking the SAT in March as well. I hope to raise my GPA, also.

Thanks again!

Getting a C in pre-calc wouldn’t look good on a transcript but in my opinion, your SAT scores make up for it. Good job on that by the way.
Rutgers: In
Boston Uni: Match
Northeastern: Reach/Match
NYU: Reach
Boston College: Reach

Sorry, i’m not very sure of the other three schools. On an extra note, BC, BU, and Northeastern are difficult to pay for so you’ll need financial aid to pay off that forty grand if you ever attend.

Thank you for that, it’s a real confidence booster to know that I have a fair chance at some of these schools.

Need a bit more direction and advice, thanks!

Hey, all.
I just recently applied to transfer from Stony Brook University to Rutgers’ New Brunswick campus for Fall 2011. I’m currently a sophomore in terms of credits (47 including the current semester), and here are the basics:
-Major: Undeclared (but would be going into Psychology)
-Overall GPA: 3.4
-Out of state
-Activities listed: Hall council president for my dorms; German Honor Society in 11th-12th grade; member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars presently; co-director for a skit during something called “Spirit Week” of Spring semester last year; and ACH Council Events Coordinator of last year
-Some volunteer works include: volunteer for Pediatric Cancer Foundation event as well as for Long Island Infant Developmental Program
-Essay regarding why I think a Rutgers degree would aid me in my life and career goals that I believe is decently solid
-High school GPA of 89 unweighted and 91 weighted and SAT total of 1780 (though I don’t believe either apply for someone so far into college)

The thing that is most eating away at me presently is that last semester (being Fall 2010) was my worst semester yet; I received my first ever C and C+, and the other three were two B’s and an A, being a total of 2.9 (as opposed to Fall 2009’s 3.5 and Spring 2010’s 3.7). Again, I have a cumulative total of 3.4, but I read on the site that one of the criteria they accept by was grade trend, and I’m quite concerned that this will be a dealbreaker in my admission. I indirectly explained in my essay why this could be, but the fact remains that it was a low for me.

What do you guys think? Do I still have a chance? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
