I recently graduated from a UC school with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Midway into my junior year, I began interning at a civil engineering/transportation engineering agency. I’ve taken a liking to it, and i’ve decided to take my career towards that route. However, because I found this out so late in my college experience, it was too late to change majors to Civil Engineering. I figured that I could get into a graduate program for Civil Engineering later.
I graduated with a low GPA (2.7), which I attribute to not taking school seriously early in college. I have not taken a GRE, nor have I taken the FE exam yet.
What is my best approach to getting into a CSU or UC graduate program for Civil Engineering? I figure that due to my low GPA and differentiating major, I wouldn’t have a great chance. I do not care much about the school ranking or anything, just anywhere I can get in is fine.
Should I take my FE in Civil? GRE? Should I apply for a MS in Mechanical E and try to switch to Civil E?
