Chances of admission?

I’m worry about my chances of being admitted to IU Bloomington because of my low GPA, otherwise everything else is great. This is a basic roundup of my High School Data (upcoming senior this year) :

AP Courses Taken
AP Human Geography Freshman Year (got a 3 on the AP exam)
AP World History Sophomore Year (got a 3 on the AP exam)
AP US History, AP English 3, and AP Psychology Junior Year (scores will come in soon)
While for my Senior Year the 3 AP classes I’ll be taking are AP English 4, AP Government/Economics, and AP Biology. Totaling up to 8 AP courses taken in High School.

I’ve passed 4 ************* business courses this year (I earned a honor/distinction in 1 of the courses) and currently enrolled in 4 now.

I’m currently in a paid internship where I actually do work at a Fortune 500 Company who hired me based off my resume and I was able to skip the interview process. My job title is Accounts Receivable Administrator and I do the same work as every other employee. The manager of my department will write me a letter of recommendation for college.

My High School Extra-curriculars:
Collegiate Challenge (Junior year-present)
Class of 2014 Prom Committee (Junior Year-present)
UIL Academics (Junior Year-present)
Academy of Finance (Sophomore year-present)
Math Club (Junior Year-Present)
Junior Achievement (Sophomore year-present)
Student Council (Junior Year-present)
Humanitarian Society (Junior Year-present)
Debate (Freshman Year)
Diversity Club (Freshman year)
When school starts again though, I will be in the process of making 2 political orientated clubs.

Church:
Servant Leader/youth volunteer (junior year-present)
Teacher assistant for Bible Study and Vietnamese (Junior Year-present)
Blessed Minister of Hospitality (Sophomore Year-present)
Usher (Freshman year-present)

I have accumulated over 350 Hours of Volunteer Service through a Food Bank volunteer Program, Church, and Junior Achievement which qualifies me for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award Gold level. I also have actual documentation of each volunteer hours earned and this will all be verified by one of the approved presidential volunteer organizations.

I was also in the Gifted/Talented program from Kindergarten-7th grade and the Vanguard Gifted/Talented program from 8th grade-9th grade (when I moved to another district my papers weren’t transferred correctly).

That all looks good except for the fact that freshman year killed my GPA. I attended a high school ranked in the top 100 High Schools in America and alot of seniors were accepted to prestigious research universities and Ivy Leagues (it was ranked around 10-20, I don’t want to give out my information). The High school was also one where you had to applied and be accepted through a committee. The courses were extremely rigorous and half of us had to leave after freshman year due to the fact that if you don’t excel in your classes each year, you’ll be asked to leave.

My current GPA is a 2.94 on a 4.0 unweighted scale :frowning: With all of this though, do you think I’ll have a chance of going to IU? I emailed the Admission counselor with my resume and he said,“I was just looking over your resume and to this point, it is very impressive and would consider you to be a strong candidate for Indiana University.”

My SAT breakdown is
Critical Reading: 560
Math: 560
Writing: 510

Also on the application packet, I saw a area where you had to filled out if one of your relative attended IU Bloomington, and my cousin did. He was accepted on a full scholarship and excelled in his courses. Don’t know if this is worth mentioning but thought I should.

This year (Junior Year) I applied to a private university and I was accepted.
With all this though, again, do you think I’ll have a chance of going to IU?

I think that you have a fair chance. I guess that your weighted GPA could be 3.5. Try to raise your SAT or take ACT.

For some reason they blanked out Coursera with the asterisks, but its suppose to be,“I’ve passed 4 Coursera business courses this year”. So far I’ve been letting people review my resume and etc and they’ve told me that I had a good chance of going but I’m just worried about my gpa lowering it. Also I’m out of state. I’m planning on retaking the SAT and taking the ACT soon, but I heard that it was better to apply early when early decision opens.

So I really screwed up here
I just finished my junior year. My cumulative GPA is a 2.21…
I don’t remember exactly what my freshman Gpa was, but my sophomore GPA was a 2.6, and my junior year gpa was a 2.1…
My sat score however was a 1970…

I am a minority (India , my parents were born in India, I was born here) I volunteered at a hospital for about 150 hours. I have no other ecs, my essays arent exactly anything To write home about…
I’m realty nervous. Where can I go? My top choices were
University of Arizona
University of Washington
Umass Amherst
Indiana university at Bloomington
Baylor university
Texas a&m
Penn state main campus
Syracuse

Please help, and any college suggestions would be great!

Do you have a weighted GPA? What is the math + critical reading score. IU doesn’t really count the writing score. What is your class rank? I’m sorry to say this, but your GPA will hurt your chances a lot. You really need to do some research on some safety schools that will admit you with a GPA in that range. I would suggest the parent board for advice.

Because of the Supreme Court decision this past week regarding affirmative action and college admission, I wouldn’t count on your race being a factor. IU uses “limited race conscious admissions practices” for underrepresented minorities right now. I don’t believe that necessarily includes those of Indian backgrounds. (I am not certain, but typically that includes Hispanics and African Americans as they are underrepresented)

What state do you live in? You should make sure you apply to your state university.

Forget about the gpa, you can’t do anything about it anymore… but you can do a lot about the sat so work hard for it and retake it

Is this regarding my inquiry or the other dude?
