Chances of being able to transfer to UC Berkeley (Haas)

Rundown of my stats (I attend Fairleigh Dickinson):

  • 3.8 GPA as of my third semester
  • Received a Presidential (full-tuition) scholarship
  • National Hispanic Scholar (1 of 5,000)
  • Participated in a few clubs and organizations such as my school’s newspaper and the theatre program
  • I have completed two volunteerships related to my major (Management/Business Administration)

Reason for transferring: Frankly, Fairleigh is not the most challenging university in the world. It’s not terrible, but I always felt I could’ve done a bit better overall and I’ve always been interested in Berkeley, even though I didn’t really have the grades to make it out of high school. (I’ll have a better one for the admissions officers!)

So can I do it? Am I setting my sights too high?

Your chances are practically non-existent trying to transfer from an out-of-state university. As it is, 5% (roughly 90-100 students) of transfer applicants make it in and that is almost exclusively from California community college.

It’s not impossible but they’ll have more students that they can admit locally with stats that exceed yours, so I’d say it’s very, very unlikely.
