Chances of being able to transfer to UIUC?

Hello, I applied to transfer to UIUC from a local CC around Jan. 22nd for the NRES, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, program.

Here’s a background on myself:
Was a Zoology major at SIUC- 3.556 GPA and in the honors program
Freshman year 1st semester: Volunteered as an UG in a lab
2nd semester: Worked as an UG researcher
Summer: Worked abroad with a professor as an UG Intern
1st semester Soph: Worked as an UG researcher
Due to health problems, I had to withdraw from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and wasn’t able to complete any of my first semester sophomore courses (I had 27 hours completed). Because of this, in the spring 2015 semester I started taking class at a local CC (13 credits). Because of this, I had to also send in my HS transcripts and test scores, I believe my HS GPA was around 3.2-3.3 and my ACT score was a low 24 sadly (Scored 30’s on the mocks, just couldn’t get it on the actual). I didn’t have the Calc requirement, but did say that I would take it over the summer since I’m taking Finite now. The NRES page says I need at least a 2.5 GPA to transfer in so I exceed that part at least aha.

I also applied to UIC, DePaul and Loyola. Loyola accepted me so far, but the price is scaring me away a bit.

Do I have any chances to get into the NRES program at U of I? Did I apply quite a bit late? Should I have my hopes up? Thanks!

Honestly, I think you have a good chance. UIUC likes transfers and you have a respectable background. UIC and DePaul no problem.

Thanks for the reply! I’m hoping they do. Even though my ACT score and GPA in HS wasn’t the best, I hope that my SIUC GPA and research background will persuade them to let me in haha. I’m also hoping I wasn’t too late in sending in a transfer application aha. Otherwise Loyola will be my backup, even though I’d to try to get more money somehow.

@YZamyatin‌ Sorry for tagging you, but I’ve seen that you answer a percentage of UIUC threads so I was hoping you could help!

@Zoo218‌
Transfer success is highly dependent on space available, which is not really predictable by anyone on the outside.

Even though you had to supply info on your high school record, your college record will carry more weight. Good luck.

Hey Zoo! I know my experience is about 1000 years old and perhaps not applicable but I just had to comment b/c my H.S. grades were similar and my ACT score was 24. I transferred from a CC to UIUC-LAS in the early 90’s. My CC grades met all of my major’s transfer requirements so I got in. (I had also taken Finite and was in the midst of a Calc class when I was accepted.) I didn’t find out til March and I was about ready to go to DePaul but I got in and I’ve been a proud Illini ever since. Good luck! Keep the faith!

Thanks for the responses! Hoping I’ll get in. I love the campus and already have quite a few friends there. And I honestly just want to experience a true college feel, even though I was at SIUC already.
Was accepted into DePaul & UIC recently too, so all that’s left is UIUC’s decision! Hopefully they announce it earlier than late March! Haha. Fingers crossed!
