Chances of being accepted as a fall 2017 USC transfer?

I’m currently attending New Jersey City University, and by the end of my spring semester, I will have completed 31 credits. I’m just finishing up the fall semester right now & I will have around a 3.7-3.9( i don’t have all my grades yet, but it seems like a safe estimation at this point.) I will have completed 13 credits for the fall semester (which i know isn’t much) , and I am taking 19 in the spring, so USC doesn’t have to look at my high school grades + SATS. On their website, it says that if you complete 30+ credits, they don’t look at high school grades + SATs. I didn’t apply myself in high school, and had a 2.8 gpa & 1880 SATS. I have been involved in many extracurricular activities, such as writing for the college newspaper, photographing for the newspaper, working in the study abroad office for my work study job, and recording basketball games for the school. I have also been very involved in political activism in New York City for the last year or so. Additionally, I have been a freelance photographer for the last year, and I won a gallery thrown in NYC in my honor. I can assemble a solid portfolio to show my work. I am also a low income student, and I have heard that helps my chances of getting into schools. I’m not relying on that, but if it helps, then cool. I’ve heard from many people attending USC that their financial aid is very generous, and have read that online as well. Being a low income student, the financial aid is a crucial aspect of my college decision. I was wondering if you guys think it is likely I will get in. From what I’ve read on these forums, I seem to stand a decent chance, but college decisions are always a toss up. It probably doesn’t help, but I have three cousins who have either attended USC & graduated recently, or are attending now. I am applying undecided, but at some point, I will likely major in computer science.

EDIT: I am a New Jersey resident

It is impossible to guess - apply and see what happens. Generally, fewer dollars are available for transfer students.

Good luck

I’m going to copy and paste this from another thread I commented on. Obviously, there are different variables in play and the CDS transfer section doesn’t have a 25%-75% range for GPA/test scores but it seems from a short glance it’s easier to transfer into USC than get a freshman admit:

Honestly, I’m not knowledgeable enough to make calls like that, BUT I can recommend you take a look at transfer common data sets.

For example, USC has a freshman admit rate of ~16.5%.

According to their common data set (section D) they have a transfer admit rate of around 30.3%.
Generally speaking, that means your chances are a bit better as a transfer student for USC, but keep in mind they don’t provide any statistics about how competitive the transfer students are. I’m sure that their admitted transfer student is around as competitive as their freshman admits.
