Chances of College(Can't sleep at night and so stressed)

Interested in Degree in Finance

Sophomore in High School

Unweighted GPA:2.5
Weighted GPA:2.88

Want to know what my chances are of getting a 3.5 or above GPA.I did really bad my freshman year of high school and got lots of B’s and C’s.
I would be interested in going to any major school for finance such as the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Texas-Austin, Indiana University-Bloomington, and University of Virginia

Extracurriculars:
Band
Debate
Business Clubs
Track

Would I have a good shot at major schools?
What type of chance do I have considering my GPA was very low after freshman year?

With that GPA those schools are out of reach. Your chance of getting a 3.5 is up to you alone.

Do I have time to raise my GPA to a 3.5 by taking more AP’s?

Yes, take more AP/IB/Honors courses.
Just because you messed up your freshman year doesn’t mean you’re totally screwed.

It’s possible to get a 3.5 GPA with more advanced classes with your 2.88.

You still have 3 more years, don’t give up now.

Upward trend will be good for those schools to see. Make sure your SAT and ACT are higher to compensate for your lower GPA relative to other applicants of those schools. Shoot for 75th percentile for SAT and ACT.

It will be very hard to get a 3.5 by the time you start applying to colleges. Even if you do take AP classes, your unweighted will be on the low side and you will probably struggle in those classes since you didn’t do well in other, non-AP classes. UT, Michigan, and UVA will all be very hard for you to get into, almost impossible if you’re out of state, even if you get you gpa up. Take classes that you know you can do well in and explore other schools, too. Also, you’ll need to knock the act/sat out of the park, though gpa is generally more important. You definitely can get your gpa up, but not to the caliber of some of the schools you’re interested in. How were your grades or what do you expect for this past semester?

My GPA for 1st semester as a sophomore was a 3.5

That’s great. Keep up the good work. Taking a lot of APs junior year is a bad idea, since you probably will not get As and will bring down your UW GPA. Work hard in the courses you choose but don’t overextend yourself.

You will find the right school when the time comes but you should not be losing any sleep about college now. Focus on your classes and learning.

Would extracurriculars have any impact on them?

Folks, APs won’t up his unweighted gpa. Only a good string of A grades will. And all the holistic the colleges will look at the transcript, so don’t think you can fake it out with easy classes.

No don’t take AP classes if you are getting Cs and Bs in regular classes how can you expect to do so well in APs?
If you are on the track you’re currently on you will be rejected from every single school on this list, and most likely have to attend a CC and hope you can transfer into one of them:

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor- Rejected
University of Texas-Austin - Rejected
Indiana University-Bloomington - Rejected
and University of Virginia - Rejected

Unless somehow you become a 5 star recruit then you’re getting rejected from every single one of these schools.
All four of them are some of the best public schools in the world, especially for their amazing business programs (Kelley, McCombs, etc.) you still have a lot of time being an underclassmen pull it together and you can get in!

I took too many honors and accel classes freshman year

Akad your UW and W are so close to one another there is no way you took more than a couple.

I am sorry I took about 4 accel classes

No honor classes

akad get on college confidential and start studying that will help you stop losing sleep. You won’t be losing sleep if you work hard.

Just focus on each course and doing your best tight now and agree…stay off CC. Waste of time.
