Chances of continuing my education after being expelled for cheating?

So I didn’t even know what I was doing was considered copyright and plagiarism or whatever but me not knowing didn’t change anything and I MIGHT get expelled. I’m scared and literally want to kill mysef right now knowing I probably will be. I currently go to 4 year private college JWU. I’m an advertising major and want to work at an Ad agency. If I get expelled and stuff how do I continue my education to get my degree so I can work at an Ad Agency? Would any colleges accept me? If I moved out of the country would a college in London accept me for example? Literally if that’s the case I’ll leave America. I really want to work at an Ad Agency and have a degree and that career. Please help me so I don’t suicide.

Just stay calm. Your mind is fearing the worst case scenario, which is probably human nature. But I’m certain things will work out for you.

You don’t know if you will be expelled or not. But even if you are, I’m certain that other colleges would admit you if you show that you are contrite and your academic performance up to this point has been satisfactory.

I’ve said a prayer for you as you go through this adversity.

Have you read the academic integrity policies at your university? Here they are.

Your professor will propose a penalty for you - it probably won’t be expulsion.

If you were to be expelled, you would not be in “good standing.” The colleges that are willing to accept students who are not in good standing as transfer students have Open Admission policies - they are usually community colleges.

I just read it. But I’ve been on google and basically plagiarism is like automatic expulsion…would they really let me stay?

Where does it say in your university’s handbook that plagiarism is an automatic expulsion? Your professor will propose a sanction for you. There is no mention of automatic expulsion.

Nowhere. But thank you for calming me down I suppose. I just assumed plagiarism with every college was like a big NO YOURE AUTOMATICALLY GONE. Especially after reading some other people’s stories about plagiarism and how they’ve made mistakes. JWU has to have some sort of expulsion rule somewhere though right?

I’m not used to getting into trouble I’m never in trouble so I’m just thinking of the worse case scenarios honestly I don’t even know what a sanction is

Most colleges would put you on academic probation for intentional plagiarism.

I agree with @Jpgranier . Most schools would put you on some kind of probation

Yes, in addition to getting either an F for the semester grade or just on the assignment. Getting caught a second time might lead to your expulsion. Make sure you understand rules for citing other peoples’ work.

This would be my first offence cheating. You said JWU would just give me a sanction?

A sanction is a penalty. It could be expulsion, but probably not. According to the handbook, you decide whether to accept the penalty or go before a review panel.

Basically what’s happening is I used an essay writing company and paid them to write essay’s for me. They emailed me directly I don’t think the school knows about it yet but I think they are going to contact my school. They said it was copywrite for me to use the essay’s and I owe them a fee now. I’m just scared and confused

You’re going to have a hard time maintaining that you didn’t know it was wrong to pay someone to do your work for you. I suggest you don’t use that excuse.

Edit: Has the university actually accused you?

Update: I was just saved by the grace of god. Omg I will never literally ever cheat again. The company resolved the copywrite with me personally the school will never even find out I just have to pay them 100$ payments until I give them the full 1500. This is the best case scenario I could have asked for. Blessed.

Let me get this straight:

You had a writing assignment and paid a writing company to write the essay for you.
They are now blackmailing you and saying they will contact your school unless you pay them additional fees?

Other alternative:

You had a writing assignment and DIDN’T pay the writing company to write the essay for you.
You used the essay for your class and now they are requesting their money and threatening to contact your school if you don’t pay.

  1. How does the company know which college you attend?
  2. If caught, you will get in trouble.
  3. You won't get caught unless you tell your school or this writing company tells the school.
  4. It is WRONG and EXPENSIVE to have essays written for you.

If caught, you still most likely would not be expelled. You would be put on academic probation most likely meaning your work would be watched closely and you would be on thin ice. You would also fail the assignment and/or class.

Look up a plagiarism finder and enter in a portion of your essay. A lot of paid companies reuse essays they have written.

That is called blackmail.

I don’t really know. I used this company last year like for my freshman year. They randomly emailed me today basically saying I committed fraud against them and copywrite for actually using the essay’s even though I paid for them. It was very confusing as I still don’t know why I owe them 1500$. I’d rather pay them money then have my school be contacted. And I have no idea how they know about what college I attend. I was so scared I didn’t really think about all of it.

I’ve used TurnItIn for my college they were 100% original. The college never found out of anything like I said I just paid them to write me an essay and they delivered. Apparently I wasn’t supposed to use that essay? Now they want 1500$ from me.

I’m glad you learned a lesson, even if it was an expensive one
