Every summer for the past 3 years I have been working with a group of doctors here in Chicago to develop a cure for the HIV/AIDS virus. Last summer I travelled to Thailand and worked with the children there to investigate how HIV/AIDS affects their life. We took blood samples and conducted surveys of both children and adults. Since my return I have been working feverishly with the lab technicians to develop some sort of cure (which we obviously haven’t found yet or else you would have heard of it) but we did develop a drug specifically for the Thailand region that can be mixed almost entirely of local materials (providing possible production jobs for the local community) and alleviates many of the symptoms.

I am in no way the person leading this operation, I’m just sort of the kid that hangs around and helps the doctors carry vials/perform tests (I met the team when they offered a one-month internship at my school, but they kindly invited me to stay on longer).

I’m very passionate about helping these children, and feel like Brown’s PLME program will allow me to keep the open mind I need for innovative drug development and the academic freedom at Brown will allow me to find the best way to help alleviate this problem.

Do I have any chance of getting in?

Oh my,

I forgot to add that I’m female and from Chicago.

My apologies :).

I do (honestly) work with a group called Free the Children that is entirely run by youth and works to bring children in the developing world and the developed world together to make the world a better place through education.

And I want to be an Africana major.

And I’m white… which means being an Africana major is weird… but africa is sick. :)

well that’s solid. while we’re just talking… what were your essays about… since they apparently worked.

for “why i want to go to brown” i wrote about how brown was the only place that gave me the freedom to find out for myself how i can best help children in africa while at the same time providing a decent education and background in the field i choose (other ivies have the quality but not the freedom, and some other schools have the freedom but not the quality).

and in my personal statement i wrote about how our generation (the first one to be truly interconnected) has a unique opportunity to erase national boundaries and create a level playing field; that i believe most people want to do this; and that all we lack is direction and understanding of how to accomplish this in the long-run.

short version: i want to help make the world a better place. truly. im an idealist.

sorry

Guess you can tell I never read these stupid things.
