Chances of getting in for someone in a sticky sitch...

Hey guys! Thank you so much for reading the post and taking your time to respond :)

I’m a girl from Bangladesh who recently came to Li Po Chun United World College with a scholarship. My previous school in my home country, albeit academically strong, had absolutely no extracurriculars. I had tried very hard to open up a debate team, but the staff didn’t agree. The only sport around was basketball and I never found interest in it.

So, after coming to LPCUWC, I found a plethora of opportunities! Everything I’d wanted to do before, such as debate and football, I took up with open arms. However, obviously since I’m mostly an amateur in everything I’ve done, I couldn’t rise to any leadership positions. Also, for the new year I’m torn between keeping all my previous activities to show commitment, and taking up completely new things because I just haven’t had the chance to do so many things before! I really want to take up things like dancing and such; things I was never exposed to in my home country.

I’ve done singing for 5 years before, and I will hopefully open up a beginner’s voice training club and lead it (hopefully) to fill up the gap when it comes to music on my current campus.

I do the International Baccalaureate and currently I’m taking Maths, Physics and Economics HL, and French ab initio, English and Theatre at SL (I’d never done Theatre before either, haha, but I adore the course so far). Currently I’m aiming for a predicted grade of 38 out of 42.

What do you think? Do you think my desire to try out new things after being deprived for so long be appreciated?

Thank you for any feedback that you may be able to provide me :D

I love United World College. I wish I had applied.

Bump! Anybody there?

One of my good friends at Cornell is from Li Po Chun, seems like she had a great time back there.

As for your chances, I wouldn’t know, but it looks like you’ll have to make sure you somehow acknowledge your attempts at starting new things somewhere in your application to better your chances. Also, have you taken any standardized tests yet?
