chances of getting into architecture

Hi, I’m a student from canada, i go to a private school and its ranked 2 in the country… and I’m chinese, from Hong Kong

I have always wanted to be an architect, since when i was a kid…

I know i can do it, despite many people say that i don’t have the grades to get into archi school…

I’ve taken the SAT once, and I got a 1750, I believe i can do better ( maybe 1900-2000) because i didn’t do so well in the math part.

My school grade last year was 81, but as my school is a bit harder than other schools, most canadian universities give us a +5 …

I have worked at an architecture related summer course as a teacher assistant… and my parents and relatives have introduced me to some architecture department heads of universities in canada and Hong Kong, and i believe i can get some pretty useful reference letters…

Can you guys give me some good advice on what to improve, and tell me which colleges in the states that are good in architecture, but aren’t that hard to reach?

THANKS!

i don’t know what kind of people you talk to because architecture schools do not calibrate your GPA as much as they do with your portfolio and creative talent…since talent in architecture is not revealed through test grades. though make no mistake, grades are certainly important especially if you are applying to a competitive school.

start making a portfolio to demonstrate your creative strength for the schools that require one. Many of the top arch schools like rice, cornell, cooper union etc require portfolios. More importantly, you should understand which arch school will fit you and where you want your education to be focused on because every school has different strengths.

also, make sure you know where you might want to practice in the future. getting a degree from hong kong might not be beneficial if you want to practice in the US due to licensure requirements. Arch schools in each country teach differently as well. know whether you want to pursue the 5 year b.arch or the 4 +2 arch program…as those will influence which school you would want to apply to.

i am also chinese and from hong kong…and wanted to become an architect ever since i was a kid haha. good luck
