Hi I am currently in eighth grade and these are my top choice independent schools for high school. Let me provide you some information about myself:
- Have been getting straight A’s since the sixth grade
- I take the most rigorous courses offered at my school which are honors math and english
- Since I attend a public school we have to take MCAS a standardized test and since fifth grade I have scored an Advanced on both Math and English
- For extracurriculars I attend an after school program where I take music classes to learn some piano and guitar, with the program I have been able to participate in sports a little bit I played soccer in sixth grade with my program but it was not an actual league sport with championships and all it was more of an after school program versus another after school program thing, I have also participated in community service with the program in sixth grade I did Bread of Life and completed 25 hours/ in seventh grade I did service learning where we collected items for the ones in need and volunteered at housing families but only completed about 15 hours because most of the time was consumed at the after school program, I have been able to participate in Math quiz bowls and writing contests with this program, my math team won and my english writing paper won an ‘excellent’ certificate, I have participated in this after school program since the sixth grade when you are able to enroll/ I attend it tuesday and thursday from 3:30-6
- Aside from that I also attend arabic school which has been a huge part of my life/ I have attended it since third grade and it is a full on school: We have tests, midterms, finals, projects, homework, competitions, spelling bees, I have learned how to read and write arabic at a proficient level, but have not yet learned how to quite speak and comprehend the language as much, I am muslim so learning arabic is really important to me, I attend that on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, It can be difficult to balance all of that with schoolwork but it is worth it in the end
- Another fact about me is that in the summer of 2013 I took and extra algebra 1 honors course at my local high school because my math teacher recommended me to
- It was a course that allowed you to be ahead of other students and take a math course ahead of them
- The course was only one month and during that time we had to master the algebra 1 honors curriculm
- At the time I was just out of seventh grade so it was like taking an ap class becuase I was way ahead
- I along with three other people were the first seventh graders to take the course
- We took tests and quizzed every other day, I did not have fun that summer but it was worth it
- The course was also more independent so it was even more challenging
- I scored a 100 on the midterm, a 94 on the final, and my final grade was a 91 I had the second highest final grade in the whole class which was consisted of 13 people , I was really proud of myself and the course really did benefit me
- Now because of that course I am taking geometry honors in eighth grade along with three other students and we will be the only ones taking that course, so when we enter high school we can skip algebra 1 AND GEOMETRY and take algebra 2 honors instead
- I have not taken the ssat yet but I will update you on my scores
If you want any more info please just ask me in this thread, Thank You.
